Hi Joel,
Now that I have signed up I can comment on the great job you’re doing on the Cobra. The chassis and engine look great.
The photos you posted above, the kit one looks like the MFH version. Lots of white metal!
cheers
Michael
Michael,
Thanks for the thumbs up, as it’s always greatly appreciated.
I don’t have any real info on either picture, but pic #1 sure does look like the MFH kit. Pic 2 is a real 1:1 kit build. The MFH kit looks just as good as the real deal if you ask me.
And thanks for signing up for the new site. It’s the future of NetMakers and our AutoModeler’s home as well. Plenty to get use to, but once we do, it should all become 2nd nature to us.
Joel
A small update on the Ford GT. Second coat of white was applied between my two road trips and yesterday the semi gloss black was applied to the hood.
Michael,
I clicked on each picture as it increases their resolution size to almost full screen, and both the White & S/G Black look smooth as silk. I’d say you did one excellent paint job.
Joel
Thanks Joel, it is by no means perfect or my best, but it is acceptable.
I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the front 98 decal. On the 2005 GT there is a very depressed vent where the 1966 is flat at the center close to the windshield. I have the Indycals set for the Fujimi, but I think the number rounds are going to be too large too, I may scan them and reduce them a few percent (4%) to be closer to the 25th scale.
Michael,
Scanning and reducing the decals sounds like the best way to go.
Joel
A wee bit of progress, from me.
Body ready for a preliminary coat of primer.
Engine partly assembled. Lots of parts, in this kit.
Looking good there Hwa-rang.
I too have a little progress to show.
She’s a roller, or would be if I didn’t glue the wheels into place. The kit has the calipers molded to the inside of the wheel backs and free to spin otherwise.
Red patches added, some touchups needed at the red to black demarcation.
Decals are scanned, cleaned up, reduced and ready to print tonight.
Jesper,
The body looks darn near perfect. I enlarge every picture posted to full size of my screen (32 inch) and there’s not a flaw showing. As for the engine/transaxle, I sure hope that you have a way to display it as it’s really super detailed. Looking forward to seeing how you work your detail painting magic.
Joel
Mark,
I’m really impressed with that Polar Lights kit. The details really blow away the old Fujimi kit (I know it’s the racing version vs the street version). The interior looks fantastic as does the engine compartment. But the body of the chassis really shows the effort that they put into duplicating all those various surfaces. Way to many manufactures would have blown some to all off with vague areas, but Polar Lights really did some excellent detail work down under. One final observation is the tire/wheel assemblies. Again, I’m more then just impressed with the wheel molding and the tread pattern on the tires.
As for those Red patches, just a little very light wet sanding should knock down those tape ridge lines, as I had the same lines to deal with on my Cobra body shell.
Joel
Thanks Joel,
A light wet sanding is in the plan to clean it prior to the decals being laid down. The photo reduced ones were printed and clear coated last night. Going to let the red set up for a few more days (it is enamel paint) still though.
I’m a little torn on the kit. I wish that they had made the body rear half separate to display the transaxle and engine. The suspension is a bit simplified but sufficient based on what you can actually see of it once assembled. The chrome on the supercharger was from Molotow pen. Hard to see in the pictures but the engine did get a thin Tamiya panel line wash.
Once again, this was a snap fit kit that I didn’t build as one. Some decals for the gauges or some raised numbers in them would have gone a long way in making the dash closer to the 1:1. The only items that I can find missing is the switch panel that would be on the right inside the binnacle.
I’ve used every shade of black I own on this kit. LOL Gloss, Semi Gloss, Flat, A/C Interior.
Mark,
I have 3 of the Fujimi GT40 kits and I’m still collecting them. They’re all basically what I’d call half curbside with the barest of details. Still, something is better then nothing.
Snap Tite kits usually aren’t my forte either, but I’ve got one Tamiya 1/20 scale Indy Lola ford road course, and I’m looking for the oval version to make the set. These kits are indeed snap tite kits, but still are pretty well detailed.
On my Cobra build, I’ve also gone through almost every shade and finish type of Black I’ve got including Rubber, Nato Black, and German Dark Grays.
Joel
Joel,
I’m Dave. LOL
Dave,
My apologies for once again getting names mixed up. Sure seems that old age is taking a greater toll as each day passes.
Joel
No need to apologize, we lost the real names with the new site, had I known that I might have created a new screenname. Maybe someday we will get them back.
Sure looks good Dixon66
Yes, we would very much like the real names to show as well
That’s the main reason why I’ve always used my full name as well as my Call-sign as Joel_W. I’ve never much cared for all these CallSign names that have no real association to one’s real name. Mine from the old site. BTW, it’s just copied and pasted which works perfectly.

It’s progress, isn’t it? I managed to get the engine block assembled and ready for paint.
And thanks to you folks, from a different thread, I was able to strip the chrome off of the headers.
Absolutely! More progress than I’ve made lately! Every little step is a step closer to the end result mate.
Cheers, D
