Ding Dong Merrily on High –

Don’t pick on John you guys, he’s very sensitive you know…
Thank you kindly Carlos… Not long to go now till it’s finished ![]()
Did the blotchy green cam…
Also repainted some track sections…
Detail painting next, MG, vision blocks etc. will add some supports for spare track on the rear and extra armour on the hull engine sides and the front area for the driver.
Then it’s weathering, streaking and rust…
A friend of mine just gifted me with a Tamiya 1/48 scale Elefant. I am in the market for the 1/35 version, but I can settle for a 1/48 one. Box is a bit beaten up, but everything inside is factory bagged and in pristine condition.
Nice. I have never dabbled in 1/48 armour … Be good space savers …
Looking great.
Thanks Ralph … appreciated ![]()
Neither have I. This’ll be a first for me.
Got a few bits of chipping done ( which led to a massive FUBAR ) … And started a dirty brown wash …
Chipping was a square of hard sponge, then Tamiya hull red and Tamiya dark yellow.
Now the FUBAR …
I was applying the wash on the rear upper left hand casemate… Unfortunately… I rushed it a bit and the hull red chipping hadn’t dried … Which then ran in all that top corner… Not pretty …
So I dried as much as possible then stippled on Tamiya dark yellow, and once that is dry … will do the same with AK RC Olivgrun…
I am then thinking of doing some shot damage in that area for a deflected impact…
Looks as if rust had broken through the paint …
Someone failed to clean the steel properly in the factory before applying the first layer of primer and then it starts rusting through …
Not a major disaster even if it was unintentional
Thats true … it could have been worse. It will be salvageable without to much effort fingers crossed and I may not need to go down the glancing blow impact shot … ![]()
When I saw the problem, that was my very first thought. Could look way cool. Those beasts had very thick hides. Also, really enjoy this project. Makes me want to build one of mine.
Doesn’t look as bad as you make it sound, it looks like a part with more rust.
Thanks Doug and Bert. … Will get a bit more done today once the repair painting is dry …and weigh up which solution seems best ![]()
Decided to go with a glancing shot deflecting off the armour…
The start … Heated piece of metal rod gently dragged across the plate … Then painted metallic grey and dry brushed with Ammo track wash
Will do some black smoke pigment, and surface rust pigment with some more streaking effects…
Excellent recovery. ![]()
Nice save John! It’s going to look outstanding. As Bob Ross used to say, “A happy accident.”
Thanks Ryan and Matt … Good old Bob Ross, used to love watching how he did his work… A real talent
