Fire for Effect!

Really reminds me of the fantastic Matchbox kits with base…

I’ve just been given a whole load of those kits, just from memory Sherman Firefly, 17lber AT.gun with towing vehicle, Jagdpanther and another Panzer - found in loft by next door neighbour and more on the way

The Mortar is coming along nicely… But I am now looking for the wicker ammo baskets… Like the ones shown in this pic.

Any suggestions how to get these? I could not find any on scalemates…

Erwin, you might be pushed to find any suitable I fear; Resicast do some 6" shells but unless these are in the background, will be too small for your model:

I couldn’t get the picture to copy.

I just wonder if you could bend/curve something from these:

They’re made from white metal so just might work; they’re designed for the model farm community (who knew?) and are available from:

The dio is not that big (see post 332), so not much space to hide and seek :frowning:
As for the wicker screens: for the outside this might be usable but the bottom is a different game…
Thanks for thinking with me…

Just saw that someone on the old forum did make just such a container… by hand! @ColinEdm!
I would like to have a bunch of those (10 to15?). That will be quite a tedious job!

Yes, not a fun job!

Do you have per chance the possibility to do any casting of the canister?

Not really, I thought about it but it looks too fragile, also not sure I even have it any more!

That is a Pity. They need not be hollow for my purpose…

I don’t know how big these are, but I’m wondering if you could make a mold from them and then cast something?

hmmm, well, the one at the bottom of the page is what I had in mind…

Those have the wrong height to with ratio…
As you can see, they are quite sleek…

Yes. So, this is really for what it’s worth, as I am NOT a scratch-builder. But what I was thinking is that maybe you could use something like that to make a kind of flexible mold of the material, and then use it to make something flexible that you could roll to the width you require? I don’t really know if that makes any sense at all really…

I really appreciate your effort in helping me out, but am also quite critical.
A mate of mine has used the old precision models ammo set for his. He will check if he has another set lying around. If not, he at least will give me the dimensions of those. Maybe someone will be so kind to draw them up so I can have them 3D printed? I want about 10 of them…

Well, the mortar is finished (only some pigments/pastels need to be added, but I will do that when it is in place in the diorama). But I will continue with the diorama. I hope I will be able to get the baskets. I do have the dimensions of them, so maybe someone can draw them up for me so I can let them be 3D printed…
