No messages - my daughter is visiting this weekend and she is more computer savvy than me . I’ll have her look into this.
Each time I hit reply, the thread scrolls to the first post in the background and I can’t type until that happens. It takes a while on a topic with a lot of replies. Anyone else facing the same or am I the chosen one ![]()
Using Safari on an iPad
You and @RDT1953 Richard are both using Safari on iPads …
I use Firefox and or Chrome on Windows 11 and I do not have this problem.
I suspect Safari.
Jim regarding storage, might it be useful to request that uploaded photos are re-sized down from 4K x 3K? I get the impression some or even maybe most contributors are sending full-sized images, I’ve always down-sized to max 1K x 750 specifically because I thought it might present premature long-term problems such as you’ve been wrestling with.
When I find a large picture that I “need” to post I use the screen image function to get a reduced size, sometimes just the interesting part and a link to the full image.
I am not having any problems with Safari on any other sites - only this one . Safari worked fine here as well until the problem that Jim was trying to fix occurred.
I support that! The photos I post are downsized to 800 x 600 px and have a size of less than 100 KB. Works fine for me. That should be enough for a forum.
I have no problems with uploading photos now. I use Edge on my desktop PC with Win 11. Am I oldfashioned? ![]()
Are they being uploaded as Bitmaps? They can be huge. When I download to the computer I always select Jpegs and then downsize them by pixels. The files are much smaller and you don’t lose any quality on the page.
I was able to load photos by copy/paste .
I tried using firefox on my ipad and had the same issue. But so far no problem on the desktop version. I guess no more uploading pics directly from my ipad for a while ![]()
Have a similar issue on my phone with safari.
I should mention that I also did a full update to Discourse at this time and that was a full new version update 2025.12.0 so that may have also triggered some kind of check for older versions, etc.
However if that’s the case you probably should be seeing a warning about browser or OS versions on your iPad. I have an older iPad 2 and can only update to version 15 of the OS so the forum is not really usable on that iPad.
