Got Hitched Campaign

Hello,

My entry for this campaign:

Bronco Models kit
Resin wheels Fat Frog Scale Models
Equipment Blackdog

I think I will only use the driver for this built.

Jeezus John; there was I, beating myself up over fretting about East German Army webbing and you’re doing this!

Ha, it is turning into something a bit more than first anticipated …

I was looking at the chassis and just how big it looks … End to end it’s 25cm…

Compared to a Panther along side of it …

Suffice to say, the tractor unit alone is a bit of a monster …

As my RMP Berlin dio draws to an end (nearly there folks) I see this campaign as an opportunity to display a mere Land Rover and trailer; mundane? Yes, of course, but a great deal of La Vie Militaire is mundane!

This will be the venerable Italeri kit:

With a trailer from another Italeri kit:

My concept of ops is this; it will depict me folks, on exercise together with a Belgian counterpart, unloading documents and stationery at the Joint Operations Centre, Maastricht, one of our War HQs when I was with HQ Northern Army Group from 1977 to 1980:

Mundane is good Brian. Looking good.

All hitched models are welcome here regardless of the complexity. Tamiya’s ‘Ford Mutt’ and trailer or Kettenkrad with trailer are just as welcome as a combo with a massive parts count.

More pipework and cables in bound … Namely both fuel tanks and an air tank mounting box.

The before shot …

The left and right hand fuel tanks both differ slightly, although the instructions would have you make them identical.

The right hand tank.

After the fuel filler, you have 3 fuel ports, 1st has a transfer pipe from the left hand tank, and the next 2 go into the fuel union at the front (all holes drilled) and that has 2 further pipes coming out of it…the ports are MENG bolt heads drilled out.

Left hand tank.

On the this one, the filler is towards the front, then the next 2 ports have pipes that go in towards the engine area. The rear port has the transfer pipe across to the RH tank.
This does not have a fuel union, but just a plate and 2 raised sides which I cut from spare PE strips.

Both tanks will have the PE step plates and brackets added on top and the foot step at the bottom.

The air tank box housing has 4 tanks, all of which will have various air pipes coming from them and in towards the chassis…

Still cannot decide what to build for this one. Feel bad about missing LUVin. Bought a bunch of trailers because of this campaign but they all lead to complex projects. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Looking for something easy and quick to avoid a crash and burn. Considered both models Peter suggested. May need to make up something. :flushed:

And the fuel tanks after …

RH tank.

rear pipe is the transfer pipe. Front 2 pipes go onto the union and then onto filters and engine area.

Rear of RH tank showing pipes going into the union.

And the tank change over lever … Just some bent plastic rod.

LH tank.

Front 2 pipes go to filters, rear pipe is the transfer pipe which will be cut down and hidden under the cab.

And the area where the 2 pipe union would go …

Both tanks have the PE foot boards fitted on top, and the step fitted at the bottom.

Air tanks next.

Nice work John. The added detail is sweet.

No idea what John (Johnnych01) is building but it looks both cool and painful. Funny how often those two things go together.

Doug, Pete beat me to it. It’s the Commander Tank transporter and trailer as he alluded to…

To get you up to speed, although it’s a nice big (huge) kit, it sadly lacks a lot of finer detail that is really obvious on the real thing, namely pipework and cables throughout…

Over view of what I’ve done and where I am…

Winch housing and exhaust stacks (if it’s not sand colour plastic then it’s detail I’ve added.

Battery boxes.

Chassis (added pipes and cables at rest) and fuel tanks

You can see there’s a lot of detail missing. Luckily I received an awful lot of walk around images not usually available from a friend here which has allowed me to go to this level.
It’s not perfect, but it’s the closest representation I can get to. And with the images available generally on line, you wouldn’t (and probably Hobby Boss either) know the detail was missing.
Onwards and upwards :+1:

Absolutely superlative pipe and wire work John. Your dedication to detail and craftsmanship are admirable.

Indeed! That is some amazing scratch work!

Thanks Matt and Phil for keeping tabs and the kind words. Like I said before, its not exact, and some pipes are a bit over scale, but I am just working with what I have at hand. Glad you like it though. :beers:

Used .3mm copper wire for the pipework on the air tanks…

All the wires will be shaped and cut to size once secured to the chassis

Point to note, the air tank box is upside down in these pics …

Another thing I noticed were the fuel tank side gauge’s…

No detail, just raised plastic lumps where the blade is pointing…

Was thinking of painting the details on the gauge fronts, but I looked through some old decals and found the 2 dial decals (I think they are from the Tamiya king tiger Ardennes set) which I’m going to use with some clear varnish dripped on top…

Beginning to get the built sub assemblies onto the chassis …
Both fuel tanks, the battery boxes and air tank housing.

The cables/pipes will either be cut back, or bent and hidden on the inside of the chassis overhang.

I would like to do this one with my Pak44, but I haven’t found the right towing vehicle, yet.
