Gulf War 30th Anniversary Campaign

Looking really mean now John, wouldn’t want to get in the way of that monster!

Yeah I know what you mean, the plow and dozer tanks do look big and nasty… I remember our old Chieftain OC dozer slicing through a tree once by accident … The tree came off worse but the dozer came away with a slight bend lol

Added some chain for the securing pins on the upper plow side wings.

I think that’s almost me done adding bits now, so will see what else has to be done prior to painting.

Well there i was sitting with the wife watching a documentary about the life and times of the lead singer for INXS, feeling smug that i was in the home stretch with this kit (you fool muhahahaha) when i came across my first issue with it.
This being that the tracks (rubber band type) didn’t fit. so i stretched them by about half an inch which seemed to work. the next problem was they wouldn’t go past the front mud guards so i had so file/sand about 1mm off of both of them and eventually i managed to get them to fit.

i was hoping to have this wrapped up this weekend but it looks like it’s going to roll on to next week now. i still have to weather the road wheels and tracks and i have some pigments that i plan to experiment with for that.

I have had that a few times and ended up removing the sprocket teeth from the bit under the track and slide it over that way.

Another option is to let the idler play its intended role. So you can cut the idler and move it rearward a little bit. But I admit that half an inch of missing track is probably more than you can fix by simply rotating the idler.

@Bison126 thankfully the rubber tracks could be stretched and that gave me back the missing length.

Hopefully they don’t shrink back and rip off the idler like the Academy Warrior tracks did to my kit…

@petbat I built that warrior kit years ago but never fully finished it, most of the painting was done, I might try and look it out during Easter and see what can be done with it.

my biggest concern with academy kits is there decals which resist all attempts to stick to a desired surface. the best decal solution I have found is to use tamiya acrylic thinners as a setting solution.

The ones in the Academy Warrior were unusable. I ended up masking up the chevrons, rectangle for registration numbers, etc and sprayed them. Then I used an Old Letraset sheet for the vehicle numbers. I raided other decal sets for the other ones I needed.

Same with the Academy Achilles and M163 Vulcan decals. Binned those and got a aftermarket sets.

@petbat Cheers for that Peter, I have that M163 in my stash too :grinning:

Got a bit of painting done this afternoon.

Done it in Tamiya NATO green. Now have to cut the chain to length and fit that. Will try some humbrol metal cote on the leading edges of the prongs and plow body to wear it then graphite powder. Straps will be an off white colour as per the pics Gino posted before.

Great finish David. Those extras really make the rear view pop.

When you take her into battle just remember “… the Rimmer directive, which states never tangle with anything that’s got more teeth than the entire Osmond Family”

This was the most excruciatingly painful 60 minutes ever… Trying to fit the plow chains …

Proved almost pointless painting the chain earlier as most of it flaked off the more stressed I got with it lol…

The back board chains are hooked over a piece instead of their correct location as boards are down.
Hopefully the chain will be ok once I touch up the flaked areas.

As painful as it may have been, it was time well spent I think John.
