Here in the UK it was Johnsons Klear, I’ve had this bottle about 10 years and that’s all I’ve used and I use it on every model I build.
Not sure if this type is still available but there is a newer version which judging by the fact you have to use ammonia to remove it is still an acrylic liquid despite saying it’s wax, but don’t quote me on that. I’ve just changed the image as I wanted to include this video as well. Basically says it’s the same thing.

Good old Klear… Many a time that got me out of late night doing my boots for drill parades or Sqn Ord Cpl lol

And here I was led to believe by Marty Elliot that HCR were above using Klear!!!

Lol… Yeah right… He was probably a prime offender back then for doing it… There was an art to applying it properly and not getting caught though lol

I heard that if it got wet it went cloudy so never used it. Not sure how true that is though.
A question for those in the know, is there a panel line running across the doghouse on the real thing where the resin meets the plastic on the pic below or is it one panel? I know the front of the doghouse comes off for maintenance on the rotorhead etc but can’t find anything for further back. Everything is dry fit at the moment just want to be sure before I glue everything in place.
There is a panel line there. It is an area that is hard to find in pics since it is the top of the helo. You can sort of see it in the below pic. You can see the latches (dots and squares) that disconnect the two panels.
Yes I can see it, it’s very faint. Thanks very much for pointing it out. Hopefully when I finally join the sections the line won’t be as pronounced as it is now, if it is a little filler and scribing will do it. Cheers Gino.
@Maximus8425 I’m curious as how you managed to sand smooth that recessed section behind the hole where rotor mast goes.
Some great work & choppers being produced guys!! Question can the old dragon O-6 Loach be used on the back of an M54 as seen in the famous photos from Vietnam?
Thanks
Mike
Yes, that is an OH-6A in the back of the M54.

Hi, which section do you mean? The exhaust section at the back?
Added a simple set of flight controls this afternoon and test fitted the crew.
I had to swap these for another pair from the spares box. The Buccaneers crew were more suitable for jets looking at their suits and helmets. These two look better for helicopters. Still needed oxygen masks trimming off, but they were smaller and just under the left shoulder rather than in the middle of the chest on the others.
I’m not going to go mad here as little will be clearly visible through the thick canopy.
It’s making me want to pull Revells 1/32 Lynx out of the stash.
@Maximus8425 the recessed section directly behind where the rotor mast goes.
If you mean within the doghouse itself the resin part is just a big empty casting. This isn’t noticeable at the front but at the back it really sticks out so I built up the inside to more resemble how it is on the aircraft. By no means perfect, it is enough once the rotor mast, head and blades are attached and the MMS goes on.
I filled it and then sanded it using a nail sanding stick from the the pound shop, actually stolen off my daughter. The sanding surface is the outer layer of a sandwich made up of high density foam which means it conforms to shallow curves making it ideal for sanding that section.

@Maximus8425 can you take a picture of said sand stick so that I can see if the wife has one I can ahem “borrow”
Here you go, a little bit more flamboyant than a Squadron sanding stick but just as effective and available in many different grades from rough to polishing. Typically you get 2 or 3 for a £1. This one I cut to shape just so it would fit and you can see it has a semi rigid centre with two high density foam layers and then the sanding surface.
For anyone that’s interested the scissors in one of the pictures are brilliant, single use medical scissors I got from a medic friend when I was serving. They literally throw these away by the ton after use so I got a few pairs. You can buy them on e-bay.

@Maximus8425 thanks for the pictures, i can’t believe you managed cut through those improvised sanding sticks with those scissors as they don’t look strong enough.
my mother had a set of those as she used to be a nurse so I immediately recognised them.
thanks again.
