Helicopter Campaign No:3

Wessex is looking fantastic Frank and the Sioux looks neat as well … The canopy on it looks nice and would be the make or break part of it if it had any blemishes on it … What did you use for the Wessex exhaust ??

What kit is your Sioux built from? I have a soft spot for them as that was the only helo I actually piloted. Some years ago there was a kit out in 1/35 but I have not seen one in years.

Paul

If 1/35, his looks to be a hybrid of the below. It is has twin fuel tanks (H-13H) with squared off skids (H-13D).

There are two 1/35 kits available for an H-13.

The Revell H-13H, a Vietnam-era bird…

…and the MRC/Academy H-13D, a Korean war era bird.

Thanks for that info. I found a Vietnam era bird from Italeri (the Revell kit?) and have it on order now. We’ll see what it looks like when it arrives and find out whether it might be a good candidate for a build here.

As far as I can tell, the Italeri H-13H is 1/48 scale. I believe the only 1/35 scale ones are the ones I listed above.

This is my 1/48 above.

Yes indeedy, it is 1/48 scale. It will fit in better with the aircraft that way. 1/35 would fit in on the armor shelf, that would have been OK too.

As there doesn’t seem to be an “enlist” button (like the old site) I’d like to join this campaign if I may? My entry would be the following “mouldy Goldie” that I recently rediscovered in a container that was tucked away for years after a major basement reconstruction.

Previous construction was limited to parts of the two engine pods and a coat of paint on the main rotor blades and most kit parts still reside on their respective spruces. Here’s the spruces:

From my limited research it seems several sources stated the kit was originally released by Zvezda before being released by Dragon.

Some wonderful looking builds already in this campaign. Hopefully my rusty skills can result in something up to the standard being set here.

Cheers,
Jan :beers:

welcome aboard mate, that’s certainly a blast from the past with that kit and I’m looking forward to seeing you build it.

Decal have arrived, for when I return.

I couldn’t resist and looked it up. Like the Aussie what if scheme.

If its what I think it could possibly be knowing the copters you go for Frank - It could be the same sort I got a lift from Soltau to Rinteln as a Casevac when I crushed my foot in the traverse monster on a Cr1 …

That Mi-28 is one awesome looking helo. I’ll bet it could scare’em to death without even firing a shot . . .

The Italeri Bell 47/H-13 Sioux arrived Friday & I dived in Saturday while waiting for paint & glue to cure on existing projects. The plastic seems soft with some sinks and the detail is also somewhat soft. The instructions are suitably vague about the position of some of the details. I wonder if this might be an older kit?

What is there looks pretty good if a bit thick in places for the scale. This is going to be one highly visible cockpit and the naked instrument panel begs for help so I ordered a set of something called by the seller “decals” but look like a sheet of decals with a fret of PE. We’ll see when it arrives!

I tucked into the project and made good progress. The pic of construction shows the fitting of the top portion of the truss. The parts are a bit thick but should be sturdy enough once assembled. Everything needs fitting and there is even some good old fashioned flash to clean up here and there.

The cross members for the skids, are very bendy, and over time will sink, may I recommend, some brass pipe.
