Thanks Rory,

Appreciate you looking in, I do have a liking for interesting Camo schemes, this is one of the more striking late war schemes, I couldn’t resist it.

Hi Russ,

I’ll have to slow down a bit more.

I am still awaitng the arrival of some decals for the pennant number, I found some with both dark and light grey as well as black and white. That will help. Mike and the boys and girls at Starling Models are on holiday.

Thanks for looking in Mate.

I’ve been wondering if decals for the pennant numbers were available anywhere… So Starling may have them?

Bit of luck last week, Mike’s boys and girls must have posted my order just before they closed for the Holidays.

The decal sheet. Nice to have the grey pennant Nos in two shades.

Boat lashings being fitted.

Done, they are bit heavy, and do need tidying up. The boot topping added, still have fore topmast to add, jack & ensign staff, screws, rigging, and a few other bits and peices.

More before too long.

It has been a while since I posted any progress, finally getting close to commissioning.

The fore topmast, the unpainted bit of etch is a bit low, so it was tweeked.

modified and fitted, also the correct type 293 radar installed at the fore end of the platform. The jack and ensign staffs have als been fitted, the actual staff has been replaced with brass rod.

The rigging is nearly done, just that to finish, the pennant numbers to add and the Ensign to hoist.

I’ve only got one gripe, Si: ideally there should be three of each colour group, as the ships wore the pennant numbers on the stern also. To represent the vessels correctly we need to buy 2 sheets… Unless that’s part of a cunning plan

Hi Russ,
I will admit I handnt realised the small letters / numbers were too small for the stern of a tribal, may be ok for a corvette. The only thing is the normal sized ones are a bit big. I will learn for next time. Have a look on Atlantic Models, they do a sheet that appears to be more comprehensive.

Apologies for giving you poor advise.

Cheers,

Si

Not your fault mate… Just need to expand my budget when I hit the order button

I really like the fine job you did with this kit. Question. Why did you wait till the ship is very near completion to apply the boot topping. I would be afraid that I would knock off many small parts.

Hi,

Thank you for your comment, I am afraid I dont have a sensible answer regarding the late aplication of the boot topping, the only thing I can think of, doing it that late I only have one shot at itwhich would focus the mind, and using Tamiya’s 5mm flexible masking tape, which gave a saftey margin so it went nowhere near the railings, applying the boot topping with the old hairy stick. I doubt I will try it again.

Thanks for looking in mate.

Hi,

HMS Tartar has commissioned, the rigging touched up and painted in. the insulators in the main aerial runs were made from daps of rather white paint, the forward set ovet the funnel were given a black wash.

The two tone pennant numbers on. (Dark grey and white)

On the stern, white.

The finished ship ready to join the fleet.

The Atlantic models Tribals are good kits, the Black Cat upgrade is not totally needed, but plenty of spare lockers, single 20s, carley floats and a few other bits and peices.Always useful

Thank you for all your support along the way.

Cheers,  :slightly_smiling_face: Si

Coming next, another escort, but something a bit different, keel laying after the commissioning of the Agizzis,

Your work here has piqued my interest in modelling this class of ships this way. By the time you send the money for the upgrades, you typically even or surpass the cost of the multimedia kit. The Atlantic kits seem to be very good quality.

Thank you for your kind comment, and you are correct the Atalntic kits are of very good quality. I bought this kit direct from Pete Hall up at ScaleModelWorld a few years back. The kit doesn’t need the Black cat set, it does make it an expensive build for it size, but gave a lot of enjoyment during the built. To be fair I don’t think the trumpy kit with the Black Cat upgrade set and the WEM Etched fret would come in that much cheaper,.

If you want an accurate Tribal,. in my opinion, the Atlantic Models Kit is the way forward, and like most of the Atlantic Models kits I have bulit it is a pleasing kit to build, even without a lot of 3D printed stuff thrown at it, that is personal taste,
