Group Build Description: Modeling the IDF from 1948 (or before) to today
Event Details: (Remember to click “Going” if you want to join the build!)
Continuing with the yearly IDF campaign. This campaign is open to modeling all IDF (and Haganah, predecessor to the IDF) related subjects past and present. The campaign will run from 1 June 2026 through 31 May, 2027.
Please note: this is a politics free zone, like the rest of KitMaker forums. This campaign is about modelling the IDF, not about discussing the morality of its operations. I will be keeping a close eye on this thread, and will deal with anything I feel violates this policy.
A Note about Awards: In order for people participating and finishing their projects to receive a badge on their forum profile, they will need to provide their account username to the group build leader by the completion date of the build. The leader will then provide this list to the site admin who will bulk award the badges to those users who have finished the group build. If you don’t provide your username or finish the project on the timetable the leader has setup you will not be able to receive an award.
I allow it for the sci-fi and alternative history campaigns. I think it would be a good idea. Typically it is not more than a few - and in any case a build can only count in one campaign by definition, so there is no double dipping.
I allow it in the ongoing Sherman campaigns too, so I guess there’s really no reason not to allow it here. Yes, rollovers from previous IDF campaigns are allowed.
I am going to get this Zelda II Classical started for this campaign using the AFV Club IDF M113A1 kit as a base and converting it into an A2! Using the 3D printed parts from the Panzer files on cults (many thanks Panzer!), the DEF Models IDF M113 APC Basic PE Detail Up Set and what little references I have I intend to make the Zelda 2 Classical and set it into a Golan Hieghts scene.
Fingers crossed all goes well as my track record on the last two campaigns is not good?
The AFV Club kitis a good one but very fiddly to put together. The workable suspension gimmick does not “work” when you glue on the six shock absorbers needed on the A2 version I am building. The roadwheels have seperate axle stubs that are trapped between the wheels but the stubs have to be glued quite heavily into the shallow swingarm sockets. there are some signs of shrinkage especially in the rear ramp and sides og the hull (hence the filler in these areas). The one piece tracks I found unusable so I reverted to some Academy individual tracklinks.
On the positive side the details are are better than the previous kits from Tamiya and Academy and you get some nice IDF accessories included. I am modifying the folding stretcher (because I am a glutton for punishment) and I have added the missing curved plate under the one (modified) rear mudguard I require for this version.
The engine grilles have been modified for the A2 version and the DEF Model etched mesh has been added. The hull roof has had the fuel filler cap removed and the second blanking plate has been added from Plasticard just behind the engine grilles.
I am in the process of modifying a Verlinden External Armoured Fuel Cell to match the references I have, more work to be done here.
