If fuel, insurance, and storage weren’t a problem… what tank would you drive?

Let’s say logistics were no object—fuel is free, parts are easy to get, and no one blinks when you roll up to the grocery store in 50+ tons of steel.

What tank would you actually want to drive in real life?

Would you go for speed like a Hellcat, power like a King Tiger, or something practical like a T-34?

Bonus points for reasons—comfort, looks, nostalgia, intimidation factor, whatever.

My picks?

  1. Panzer IV G for the Max, Mad Max.

  2. Cromwell MK IV because sometimes you feel the need for speed, got to love a vintage WW2 tank with a modern today power to weight ratio!

  1. M60A3 tts Patton, 55 ton Cold War MBT can always make a parking space at Wally-World or Costco on Saturday morning.

Chally 1 no question! It has the looks of a sports car, with a large gun!

Just look at those svelte lines. It exudes sexy, with a large gun!

CVR(T) Spartan; not too big, easy enough to park (don’t have to worry about idiots opening their car doors too wide either), enough room for my wife’s shopping and I think there’s just enough room in the back to stretch out and sleep - might be wrong on that count, but someone like John will put me right I’m sure. Oh, and my Spaniel will also fit in.

If there isn’t enough room I’ll opt for Sultan with the penthouse.

Something comfortable and a working heater. Water tight would be a plus.

I’m not much of a tracked person, but honestly…

Just because I can probably still park it in the regular section of the local Safeway while I pick up the milk.

Indeed there is enough space to lie down, a lovely long bench seat designed to seat 4.

For a daily and general runabout… Has to be a CVRT Spartan ( Maybe a Warrior for some hitting power if I get cut up at a junction ) and for special trips, has to be Cr1… :+1:

That’s what I vaguely remembered - that’ll suit me just fine. And, and, somewhere I can do my typing(!)

Reminds me of this old Kenny Everett sketch (and yes it’s an M10). He does raise a good point for tank ownership.

I’d go with Challenger 2. Parking would never be a problem (for me at least! Not sure about anyone else…) and nothing shifts traffic jams quite like a 120mm HESH enema…

“When I’m nipping around town running errands, I use my Hellcat to make the most of the sunshine but when I gotta get the kids to soccer practice, it’s the T34 every time - safe, practical and not as showy as a flying Cromwell”

Personally I’d go King Tiger with “Porsche” turret (I know it’s not the proper name!) just for looks.

Not tanks but I would choose something like these:

FV601 Saracen Armoured Command Post

Or maybe the BTR-152U command vehicle

An armoured car would be a lot of fun I think.
Something like a Ferret would do me.

The landlord of a local pub once bought one. Didn’t keep it long - his wife didn’t think it was as practical as the land rover she’d expected him to buy. It was gone within a month :joy:

the FT-17 just because they look so cool

My dream tank is an M47 Patton but only if I had a huge ranch to go along with it.
