Improvised turret top protection?

Surprised the dreaded IED hasn’t come out to play… maybe the brave citizens of Ukraine are saving those for later?

most folks don’t realize it, but tracks are limited to where they can go. We’ve already seen bogged down SPG’s in photos. Tanks are even worse. You know the countryside and you almost know the exact route they got to go to get somewhere. Kinda like a funnel. River crossings will prove to be deadly once they learn to set the trap. Every time they find a dud 152mm round; expect it to be under the roadway and command detonated. A 152mm round will eat any tank alive in spades. Expect one to two percent of the rounds to be duds because of the ranges they are shooting right now. RPG’s were a very feared weapon, but the newer ones (41 and up) don’t seem to work as well.

I’ve seen film footage of cluster rounds being used in dense populated areas. Kinda bothers me, but also knew it was coming. Beehives will be next. Yet the Ukrainians have started using WP rounds, and that alone will become a psychological weapon. You watch your buddies cook, and your game plan changes. What they need is several thousand Claymore mines and a thousand spools of monofilment fishing line. They’ll figure the rest out pretty quickly. Won’t stop them, but they’ll sure slow down to a crawl.

Last night and this morning, I’m starting to see more footage emerge of tank/infantry teams doing their business. Along with the old school Red Army artillery approach. The rapid easy way didn’t work, so now they’re going in the deliberate hard way. Or so it is starting to look.

How are all these weapons actually getting into Ukraine? Was it Latvia or Estonia giving Ukraine a bunch of ex-East German D-30 howitzers?

I would guess that any stuff from NATO coming in to Ukrainian is coming in overland thru the Polish and Romanian borders. Flying stuff into western Ukraine is an air combat incident waiting to happen, and the Russian navy Black Sea fleet has control of the sea lanes into Ukrainian ports.

Guess so as well : https://www.ft.com/content/38c1ee58-6bc0-4d47-a5f9-3f7021fb46ef

H.P.

Maybe the guys at CENTCOM could use this.

I think it is correct regarding the borders but I would be highly suspicious about the rest.
Centcom just needs to know where the borders are, getting identified on the wrong side of a border could give Little Stalin all the excuse he needs to escalate this war

Yeah border incidents are not much fun…

I kinda figure they’re in there right now. You see tactics changing ever so slightly, and moving towards the classic shoot and move system. The one issue I see is logistics. They use a different round than NATO uses, and this may become a major issue. Russians still like the idea of tank riders (ala WWII), and this is where the beehive will rain supreme. A tank is pretty limited without infantry around it.

The one item that really interests me is that downed Ka-52. I would imagine they’ve already been all over it, and it’s only a matter of time till the Russians frag it, or somebody with the means steals it. I see it on a flat bed making it’s way to Poland at three in the morning. They have ways to get the job done, and at this stage in the game a few hundred Stingers will have Amazon deliver it.

Yeah I guess the Russians didn’t or couldn’t seal the borders to prevent stuff coming in. I figured they would at least have air patrols out that far.

Didn’t help here either!

Used tank parts anyone?

Roadwheel coffee table anyone? They could sell the “used parts” to raise money. Just think about the conversation starter you would have. A piece of the action if you will.

A knife made from a destroyed Russian tank is the only acceptable Russian steel I would take from now on.
