Iwata Eclipse HP-CS nozzle

Hi,

The nozzle of my Iwata Eclipse HP-CS is probably damaged, so I’m searching for replacement. The problem is here in Europe they are very expensive, like 50eur for a nozzle plus they ask 15-20eur for shipping and they are hard to find in stock (still way too much), probably will cost like 100eur for nozzle and needle. I noticed in the US they are like twice cheaper, but usually they ship only domestic.
Probably I will have to get a needle too, but the old seems not damaged.

I’m considering getting the H&S Evolution 2024, but still want to keep the Eclipse as general workhorse.

Here I found some good prices in the US (there are maybe other shops with good prices):

So, my question is-is it possible for someone in the US to order it for me and send with the post as a gift. Will be the shipping expensive (to Bulgaria), I’m not sure for the price? I can sent the money to the person via Paypal (family and friends), or I can sent printed items from my designs (whatever you like, full plate of designs, extra the cost of the nozzle and needle) for free, plus the shipping.

Just looking for solutions, till I get a new airbrush. You can send me PM, if someone is interested to discuss.

Regards!
Venelin

I recently bought the H&S Evolution 2024 CR (extra needle). You may only need the H&S it is a thing of beauty and may just replace your Iwata?

A possible cheap replacement that will feel very familiar to you.

Yes, I was thinking to do just this. It seems Iwata parts are too expensive to bother, considering the high shipping also. I will get the 2in1 probably. I was considering also Gaahleri, but too mixed opinions on them.

Decided! I will get the Evo 2024 2in1, the 0,28 and 0,45 nozzle set will cover both detail and general work. And it seems easy to clean.

You won’t be disappointed!

My recommendation. Read the instructions very carefully before touching the airbrush! We all have a tendency to fiddle with knobs and wheels and take things apart, all things H&S say don’t do. The airbrush is calibrated at the factory to the paint sample provided in the box.

Thanks for the advice!

I actually had the older Infinity CR Plus, but sold it, because the trigger had issues. They say in the 2024 models they fixed the triggers. What is your impression on this?

I’m not sure what the trigger issues were with the Ifinity. I upgraded from a Badger Patriot to the Evo, so it is a huge difference for me.

My impression is the Evo is smooth as silk! There is much control between air and paint. I would probably say ⅔ of the trigger pull is of useful paint application from very little to lots. The downward air pressure has a little less usable air release say ¼, I find you can pull the trigger and the downward pressure will easily remain where you want when adding paint to the mix.

I hope my explanations are understandable?

The old H&S had something like trigger delay, I couldn’t get used to it. Many complained about this and it seems in 2024 models (Evo and Infinity) they fixed that. They said it in the official reviews, it is like more responsive.

Nevermind, thanks for the detail explanation :+1:

Wow it seems that even the .45 on the Evo 2024 can do great detail :slightly_smiling_face:

I have the 2024 model infinity CR+ 2-in-1 with .2 & .4 headset, & I’ve not even used the .2 set yet, as the .4 is fine enough for my use, including freehand Nato 3 colour camo.
I’ll try out the .2 set when I am confident enough to paint the 1/48th & 1/35th German camos.

I also have the HP CS, (15 + years old), that I dropped head first on the floor, so I feel your pain.
Airbrushes.com have the parts for the HP CS, who also serviced & repaired my clumsiness, but looking at the UK parts list prices, I guess it won’t be much cheaper to Bulgaria.

The parts availability in the UK, & very reasonable price of spares for the H&S also had a big part in my decision to get the H&S.

“I actually had the older Infinity CR Plus, but sold it, because the trigger had issues. They say in the 2024 models they fixed the triggers. What is your impression on this?”

From what I saw and read, the trigger ‘issue’, having to pull back the trigger quite far before any paint delivery, is intentional.

This was not what I was used to, so I read up about ‘fixes’ on YouTube, involving 1 or 2 PTFE seals from their (very reasonably priced) replacement seals set.
You place them between the trigger assembly & needle guide, which takes the whip or delay out of it, which is my preference.
This mod is fully reversible as all you are using is 2 seals.

Plus points:

  • The .4 and .2 nozzles are BIG enough to see, pick up, and clean with my clumsy hands.
  • It is very very easy to handle & clean.
  • No issues at all in spraying ‘hot’ lacquers or thick primers.
  • The nozzle & needle prices are UKP £19/€22 & £14/€16, not £50+
  • The Harder & Steenbeck – Airbrush Service Kit is £36/€43, waaay cheaper than the Iwata kit, worth getting.
  • The needle lock handle pre-sets are very handy & worth learning how to use it. This helps me a lot.

Not so good, (for me), is the green GREX handle I use (because, hands), is a little loose fit compared to the HP CS, but it is no issue in use.

The 2025 Infinity is now available with titanium nozzles and needles, although I haven’t had a reply about if these can be retrofitted to the 2024 model.

Last word, I haven’t used my HP CS at all, in the 2 years I’ve had the H&S, it’s that easy to use.

So the HP-CS is harder to use?

Just ordered the Evo, will see how good will be, fingers crossed :slightly_smiling_face:

No, not hard to use.
it was miles better that the badgers i was using in the 80’s-90’s. Did my first freehand NATO 3 colour camo with it.
You do have to be more precise with your paint load out though.
I still have it & will use again.

BUT…
PARTS ARE 75% more EXPENSIVE to replace, €50 versus €20 for a nozzle
AND since it is so small, hard for my clumsy hands to deal with.

Also, the H&S is so easy to clean and use.
2-3 generations more advanced.
Im told H&S is owned by Iwata anyway?

My main consideration for the Evo 2024 was the spare parts cost and availability.
H&S was bought by the same group that owns Iwata, but they are still separate companies I believe. Like the car companies.
Also I think Eclipse has, how to say, stronger airflow than the H&S which may be an issue for fine detail. I couldn’t get used to it. But for general work is ok.

One thing I could do with the Eclipse now is to swap for 0.5mm nozzle and needle (plus cap), looks like the 0.5mm nozzle is like 12$, much cheaper than the 0.35mm. The whole setup will cost like 30$ and I can use the Eclipse for primers and varnishes etc. and the Evo for detail work.

That’s basically what I did with the Master AB or at least that was the plan. I use it more than I planned to. Granted I am not getting as detailed as you might.

The set up I have is the Iwata Eclipse with a .5 nozzle and needle for base coats etc… and an Iwata Highline HP- CH for detail. Very happy with the results. I got the conversion parts from the Merri Artist. Just a note. I was very impressed with the people at the Merri Artist. Very knowledgeable and knew exactly what I needed. I will use them again. Recommended without reservation.

Yeah, I think the .5 nozzle will be the better setup, the price is much lower than the .35mm spares. That shop has the best prices I could find.
So probably you need also to change the nozzle cap for the .5 setup?

The nozzle and the needle must match.
