Land of the rising sun

First two bits of weathering…a neutral wash and some raw umber oils.

Dust it up a bit next I think.

:rage: disaster struck. Got the fuselage all glued together and and everything was looking great on the Jill… knocked over my bottle of extra thing soaking the lower wing and cowl

Probably gonna have to bin the kit… after the cockpit came out so well

Oh no!!! I’m sorry that happened :pensive:

Is it really that bad? Can you sand it back a bit and fill the depressions so you can reshape it? Might even look like battle damage.

The gouge isn’t terrible, but it wiped out the detail on that half of the wing as well. The panel lines, rivets, and small circular access panels are super soft now :disappointed_relieved:

Looking at it again I think I can fix it Gonna take some but I think I have the tools to do it

Edit: nvm…. Went to go take another look and the detail on the wing is basically gone as the plastic keeps swelling. Argh, o will be adding a glue holder to my next order

I will hold on to this kit in the hopes I one day find a replacement bottom wing and cowl…

Think I’ll crack open the Oscar to get something done for this campaign

Sucks, Mead. Sorry to hear that :slightly_frowning_face:

Looking forward to see the next one - better luck on the Oscar.

Just makes me sick to see what happened to Jill. Terrible that it happened. I do not have a Jill kit if I did I’d send you the parts you needed.

Looking forward to your Hayate.

You could always do a ship. Plenty to choose from

Yeah I’m pretty frustrated :frowning: worst case scenario, I had the bottom wing section on my cutting mat and was gluing a small part to the inner wing when I bumped the glue bottle and knocked it over spilling a large puddle right under the wing… literally the only time I’ve ever knocked my glue over and spilled right on a major part

I think I’ll be able to the Hayate justice though

I plan to do a Japanese ship at some point. I’ve never done a ship before though and have too much going on for a long ship build at the moment

What a terrible thing to happen! Considering all of the excellent work you have done, I wonder if it might be money well spent to just buy another kit? Then after you have robbed the parts needed to complete the project you would have spare parts to keep or dispose of as you desire.

Paul, no stranger to spilled glue myself . . .

I’ve considered it. Sprue bros has it for 20 something bucks. Might canabilze the two sprues I need and then sell the remaining parts or keep them for spares

Got most of the parts cut out for the Ki-84 cockpit and engine. Test fitting if the plane showed very little gaps of any kind! I plan to add riveting as it is easier to find blue prints of this guy compared to the Jill

Hope to get primer and aluminum down tomorrow. This is gonna be a late war hike island defender/B-29 interceptor so I plan to weather it a bit more, aluminum in the cockpit will be a base for chipping

Got paint down and lightly chipped the interior! It’s a kit shiny but it will tone down with a wash.

Quick question. What color would the inside of the engine cowl be. Instructions call out interior green but that feels wrong to me

Looking great. The wash will make these pop!
