Phil, did you ever get your Fujimi Oscar I?

I have not. Given we have some time here, I’m going to be patient and hope for a new run or to find one inexpensively.

I thought the start date was moved to March 1st? was I dreaming?

Joe

Might have been a different campaign? I kept it as the original start date for now

I’m defiantly in for this. Possibly a type 16 or Pz.i.

@DennisatAutoloader you know about this campaign right?

I better start building.

I was looking through my old FAOWs and couldn’t find the Frank in the pile but there’s this link to a gallery. The colors are just as varied as any other aircraft.
https://j-aircraft.com/gallery/army/ki-84_gallery.htm

I see a lot of planes and some armour so I thought to myself “How can I stand out in the crowd?” and it struck me. GO BIGGER!!

So I will be doing this:

I will go light with the aftermarket on this one. Basic Eduard PE set and a wooden deck is all. Looking forward to getting started on this one.

@forest1000 and Joe, I just completed Tamiya’s Ki-84. Nick Millman of Aviation of Japan has several articles about Frank colors. In short, Franks originally left the factory in natural metal, and were given “Depot camouflage” in the field. Often, those were some sort of a dark green, with artifacts showing it with a slight blue hue. Of course, similar to the problems of German tank colors when applied in the field, stocks were used whether they were milspec or not, and would depend on how well the painters handle them. In late 1944, Nakajima started painting them at the factory. Then it was an olive drab top side, and the bottom was a sort of olive gray. It’s speculated that it was the topside color with white mixed into it, as seen in this subject: Aviation of Japan 日本の航空史: Yet More Hayate Thoughts ~ The Non Standard Schemes Part Two

Aviation of Japan shows some color schemes that have been identified where the Franks had a mixture of patterns and colors. And Nick also has a color photo of an aerodrome in Korea after the war where you can see a variety of Frank’s, natural metal, factory painted, and maybe field painted, some with anti-glare panels, some without.

What a great site. I think this kind of information leads me to the hairspray technique for the entire aircraft. Thanks for the details.

I have a silly question about this group build , when it starts should a build report be written and if so where? I didn’t find anything about it here

General rule for campaign/group builds is to post a “start” shot of your project in its unbuilt state, at least a couple progress shots and then the finished product. The more progress shots the merrier though.

Lots of users chose to run a separate build log, especially if it’s a more complex project, but this is entirely optional.

I too would like to join this build. I have plenty of kits to choose from.
