Which kit is this?
It’s Arma Hobby 70051 .
Looks like a great kit. I have the hasegawa in the stash but this looks outstanding!
Now that I have finished The Great Canadian Campaign, I can start my next build. and I have decided to get this long time stash resident finally together.
Nakajima C6N1-S Saiun Night Fighter from Hasegawa in 1/48 …
…Hasegawa offers only one decal option. As far as I know, there was only one plane existing in this configuration …
The main build blog can be seen in my bench works thread as always. But I will post the main steps also here.
Happy modelling!
Torsten
Fellow Rising Sun Campaign band of brothers, I have a Sword 1/72 Aichi B7A2 ‘Grace’. I’m never going to build it. It belong to Russell I thought I’d build it in his memory. I’d rather it go to a good home. If somebody would like it for this campaign, let me know. Cost of shipping is all I ask. All my best, Fred
That was a very admirable intention fred. I would consider it but I already started my campaign build.
nice work so far on your hayate radek. mine has a bit less detail. i tried adding some of my own.
Can anyone tell me if the hayate should have a panel line running down the spine and underside of the fuselage like the bf 109 or should i fill them?
Belay that request. I found the answer. Fill them in.
@JPTRR - do you mind me asking where you got a copy of the Pacific Profiles Volume 8? Amazon shows it not being released till August.
Thanks
David
Hi David,
The publisher sent it to me. I’m writing up a review on it. That and their C-47 book.
Thanks, Fred
@JPTRR - thanks - looking forward to this book hitting the street next month
David
Hi Everyone,
I’m really impressed with the number and variety of builds currently ongoing, fun stuff indeed!
This is my first update on my G4M1 type 11 (Betty) build. Since I have two of these, this one will be mostly OOB to see if there’s any pitfalls or build tricks I can learn on the way. Additionally, I pulled out all my reference stuff that I collected over the years, sadly there’s not a lot of interior pictures to help me enhance the interior aside from the fore and aft areas. Granted once closed up there’s not that much to see.
I began with painting the interior. The cockpit and nose areas were painted an interior color, and as this build will be the plane that lead the attack on the HMS Repulse, and Prince of Whales, I used Tamiya’s interior color XF=71. I also, thought it would be a little fun to try a different shade of aotoke, the greenish blue metallic color used.
The first thing I did was assemble the cockpit area with the seats, yokes, and tables. Then all the interior was given a gloss black base coat using Mr. Color gloss black.
There’s a lot of real estate inside this beast, and for a mental reference, this bird is on par with the C-47 regarding size. Once the interior base coat was done, the areas that were to be aotoke were given a base coat of Tamiya X-11 Chrome Silver.
I then mixed Tamiya clear green and clear blue in equal parts and went over the silver! This color can be seen on the parts to the left in the picture below. I really desired something that was a bit more green, so I went back over the area using straight clear green. As seen on the right, which for this project, I liked a bit more.
I completed the greenish aotake, and then proceeded to do the remaining areas using the interior color.
Satisfied with the interior colors, I moved onto getting things done to move onto closing things up. Which meant doing the instrument panel. The instructions would have you paint the backing in black, but my research found that this was actually the interior color at least on the early variants. Using a punch set I proceeded to punch out the instruments and place them onto the panel. Tedious, but I think well worth it.
Next up will be some detail painting, seat belts, a bit of a wash and determine the next adventure, till then have fun!
Hi Everyone,
Well last year was what I called “A Big Year” and knocked out 26 builds of birds I wanted to get finished and on the shelf. Looks like this year is turning out to be a Multi-builds year, with multiple builds of the same or similar aircraft. Many of these are of Japanese WWII aircraft, and before I get too far ahead of myself I’m just going to put them up here.
The A6M, one of my favorite planes, and one that I’m doing for a self-campaign of The Battle of the Coral Sea, where I’m doing the planes from the USS Lexington, and IJN Zuikaku. To date, I’ve completed the SBD and TBD with the F4F under construction for the US, and the Kate, with the Val and Zero heading to the staging areas. So, I’m entering the A6M2 from Zuikaku for this build.
And got the interior colors on as well.
I’m also in the process of giving my knowledge away to a fellow modeler who’s building the Hasegawa A6M5, and I agreed to do a duet build with him. For this I chose this!
And also painted the interior, this one will be a Nakajima Zero.
The big reason for doing these now, was due to painting the aotoke on the Betty, I think everything turned out pretty nice.
Have fun modeling!
It will be fun watching your models come along.
looks like a good build underway.
Tamiya?
I liked my Tamiya so much that I still have it after building it 45 years ago. It’s got some parts missing, but hey, after the battle?
@Scouteyes Thanks Steven!
@JPTRR Yes, the ancient but lovely Tamiya. Well, you built a new release at that time!
New update with several advances. Complete build as well as painting. 1) primer, 2) yellow, 3) blu tack, 4) lightened khaki green, 5) green and 6) red brown.
Good to see you well done model of my old pal
Yes. It may show its age, but it is still very reasonable quality, especially in proportion to price. Unlike a lot of other manufacturers, Tamiya’s wholesale prices for most older kits are not bumped up equivalent to the newer release costs.
Looking good Tomás
