M114 A1E1 Takom 1/35

Just for info this is how my modelling mate, Pete Smith tackled it:

As I say, just for your information.

Needs to be replaced with a detailed 3D part!

It looks like he shortened it too.

Excellent model. I have the same figure as a commander in mine.

Your work is excellent Brian don’t sell yourself short!
You always inspire me to get a Cold War project done!

I’m looking a this original image and I tend to agree that the feeding chute is mush shorter in the kit.

Thank you for the pictures.
The kit chute is the right length. The issue comes from the material which is a very stiff vynil which doesn’t bend in curves but in sharp angles. So the rendering is awful.
A styrene part would have been better.

I tried to fix the chute shape. So I recovered the elements I cut yesterday and drilled their both ends. Then I inserted a bit of brass wire in each end. I cut the chute I had glued to the kit and drilled the ends too.
Next I tried to bend the “new” lengthened chute to give a more appropriate shape.
The fix is far from perfect I know. Ideally you’d better cut the original part in only three lengths and proceed as I mentioned. Thus there will be only 2 cuts which are quite hard to conceal.
As a side note the total length of the chute with the cut elements attached back is longer than the original one so I had to remove 3 elements.
I still think that a styrene part would have been far more realistic and user-friendly.

Nice fix, and looks good.

Thanks Johnny.
If the temperature is suitable I’ll try to apply the decals today. I intended to to it yesterday but my gloss varnish was too old and remained sticky even after a while in the direct sun light. So I had to spray a new coat from a brand new bottle.

The end is close. I have weathered the vehicle. It still needs some touch-ups and probably a bit of pigments here and there before I can call it done.

Thanks for the appreciation.
I have added more dust on some spots and rubbed the metal parts with a graphite pencil. I also added the antenna. It is not glued so it is removable for when I go to a model show.

I call this one done.

With the way you dusted the suspension, it at first sight looks like you haven’t got round to painting that yet

I intended to have a lot of contrast. Apparently it works
