Rye’s kit is already out; Voiio’s follows in about 2 weeks.

Got my Rye Field kit today and had a moment of panic looking at the turret sprue. It is labled D, same as their other ones and has the exact same parts layout. Looking closely, the turret does have the extra frontsl armor and a coule different weld lines but it was not easy to tell. Markings have 4 tanks, 3 in tan (oddly two have different numbers but the exact same barrel name) and one in the new paint scheme.

If you look at the part trees for the new kit; you can see that the yelow ones are the parts that are common with most of the Ryefield’s previous releases of the M1A2; the light blue ones are the new parts that are unique to the SEP v3, including the “Trophy” APS and the new turret with the thicker frontal glacis. Everything else in the kit should be common and interchangeable with the previous SEP v2 offering.

Thats one thing i like about the RFM Abrams kit you can build any variant of the Abrams from the early A1 with the rubber chevron tracks ( needing those tracks though) to the Sep V.2 or V.3

Not from the above kit (RM-5104). Due to the updated turret, it can only be built as an M1A2 SEP v3. Their earlier kits give you some more leeway, but are again limited by the turret. If you want an M1 or M1IP, you need different turrets than the kits supply.

I know I was referring to to the early 80s variant of the A1 to the A2 SEP V.2 kit
Rye fields need to do the M1 and IPM1 then they have all variants covered

I think the earliest kit Ryefield put out for the Abrams is the RFM 5004 3-in-1 M1A1 SEP TUSK (2016), then they released the RFM 5006 M1A1 1991 Desert Storm later the same year.

 This would be the better choice to backdate to an M1/M1IP; unles there’s a better choice for backdating the Abrams.

the only problem is back dating it to a M1/IPM1 the M1 and IPM didnt have the NBC filter it had a stowage bin where the NBC filter is and I believe it had the unarmored gps and im not sure but i think the early M1,IPM1 and early M1A1 had different road wheels im sure Gino can confirm that aout the road wheels

Greg,
My RFM SEP V3 kit arrived in the mail today. I’ll post some sprue shots here and M1 model group on FB soon.

Kind regards,
James

M1 and M1IP had road wheels with thinner rubber parts. The rest you got down.

Backdating any M1A1 would be quite a chore since the M1 had a shorter, differently-shaped turret. You would have to totally redesign/reshape the turret.

For an M1 or M1IP, the Panda kits aren’t that bad. With a little work, they can come out great. They are supposed to be reissued by Zimi Models soon too.

So what colors do they recommend for the new paint scheme?

Hey, remember the update of the added armor over the cables for the trophy mod. I expect you will have that finished sooon…

Does that mean, short of the turret, that the SEP 2 parts are included or were the SEP 2 parts on a seperate tree like the SEP 3 sprue?

It looks like the rest of the v2 parts are on the S and Y sprues, which are also in the v3 kt as well.
