Took last week this shots of an M35 truck used or firefighting at Illesheim Army Airfield.
Is this close to you? I served on one in Nam for a short time at Pleiku and always hoped to build one. Ours was an M34, but the rear was the same.Any extra pics or measurements of the bed would be really appreciated. Thanks, Wayne
Hi Wayne,
yes, it relativly, close about 110 km. But it has limited opening hours, only two weekend per month. I go ther once a year when they have their Open House. I am afraid you have to wait one more year.
Ha ha, no problem, I’ve waited 53 years, what’s a little longer! Thanks again for these. Wayne
Maybe you can remind next year in early June, so I do not forget it.
Will try, my memories a short as my …eyesight! ha ha Wayne
Hello!
Cool photos, thanks for sharing!
Some time ago @HeavyArty posted a picture of this type of truck here:
Here is that picture again:
The correct name for this truck is apparently P-530 pumper.
Sure would be cool to have a model (or rather a conversion) kit of it. Unless Hobby Link makes it, maybe somebody would draw it up for 3D printing? The challenge here would be getting the right references.
@namengr - maybe you can get a copy for TMs for it somewhere in the States? If you posted a set of documents here, or somewhere on the 'net, somebody is sure to model it.
Have a nice day!
Paweł
Look what you’ve done! Now I’m going to have to draw it up in 3d!
Interestingly this is P-530B, based on the M34, jus like @namengr wrote!
Actually, somewhere I have a copy of the manual, just buried in all my moved stuff. Something I’ve always liked about this group is that you bring up a subject and before you know it there are so many people offering feedback and helpful support. Love you guys! Wayne
Hi there guys,
I’ve been looking to do something with the Revell kit for a while. I know many people would say that kit is a dog, what can I say, woof woof
It can be made into a nice model (with a lot of work) or converted/updated using AFV Club’s M35A2 parts.
Yeah, I have the MASH boxing and the one with a jeep. Years ago I started to build a quad gun truck using parts from one of these, Tamiya 2 1/2 kit and the gun unit from their quad 50 halftrack. Still in a box some where. Wayne
Hello!
OK, 40 years ago the Revell deuce must have been just fine, but nowadays it will look odd when done… Too many simplifications! It might be all right to build together with your 7 year old kid or as a donor for the cut out cargo bed.
I have that kit, too and maybe I’ll build an M34 like Gino did - I even have the parts necessary to build a detailed lower half of the correct gasser motor for it and the radiator grill with headlights mounted low - you can see it in this thread:
The AFV Club kit of the M35A2 is much more detailed - but still not as good as their newest 5 ton. An absolute maniac would have to take the M35 kit and detail it with parts of the 5 ton for top detail. Then again, the 5 ton tires would also be a perfect fit for the M34 (the tires from the Revell kit are too small!). Then again you would have to do something about the rims…
That said I undestand if you just want to build something out of the box - I’m sure not the one to tell you what to do! I wish you fun no matter what you do.
Have a nice day!
Paweł
I personally would like to see the M35A3 in styrene
Unfortunately, I doubt we will see one in plastic since they were not widely fielded. They were mostly limited to National Guard units to save money and extend the life of their M35s as opposed to upgrading to new, expensive LMTVs.
You could probably get our 3D design guys (@Petition2God and @Pawel) on that. It wouldn’t take too many parts. It is mainly the larger tires from the M923A2 w/CTIS, new front grill and headlight setup, larger muffler, new intake next to the exhaust stack, and a new rear bumper/bed support and rear light setup.
I know I am not interested in CADding conversion parts for that truck.
Also new engine hood sides and repositioning the headlights.
I think that the hood needs to be lenghtened as well …
I believe the hood and side pieces are the same. It might be the angle. This was an add-on kit to bring them up to newer standards. The bumper is just inverted and a hole added for the blackout drive light, with a filler piece along with the new mesh grill and side pieces added.
The basic truck remained the same with the new light setup. The new muffler and air filter were needed as a new engine (Caterpillar 3116 diesel) and Allison automatic transmission were added.
Are you really sure about that?
The height difference between the top of the hoods is greater than the height difference measured at the fenders.
Old hood slopes down from the windscreen, new hood is horizontal but the edge of the new hood where it meets the side plate slopes upwards towards the grille.
The new grille is also further forward than the old, measure and compare distance 1 and 2
