I’ve been following Tom’s build of his M54 with TPU. I’m at the point where I need to make the info plates for the tpu and have a’brushed some Tamiya chrome silver on thin card. My question is, once ive blown a coat of semigloss black over it, how long to leave it to cure/dry before attacking it with the #11 blade?
Thanks Tom, im looking at pics of the info tags to get size and text layout, but so many of them are difficult to read as light glares off them. Was hoping for some info in the TM but no luck yet, oh well….
The thing thats really worrying me is all those tiedowns!
You know, I probably should have worried a bit more about the actual wording on the data plates, but the reality is I just went for the “effect” of having them, realizing that at that scale not only could I not actually read them, but hardly anyone else could either. My goal was for the “look” to trick the eye into believing that there was actually something written or drawn there.
Yeah, the tie downs, both the straps with the PE buckles as well as the turnbuckles were a pain!
Tom, I see what you mean about the “tiny text” I did the labels this morning and with a little more fettling they’ll look, to my ancient peepers OK. Labeling the tanks tomorrow but boy, this has been a slow build (Sept).
Mikey’s rebuild of the hood and the rest of the set are in BC now, so then I can move onto that. I cringe at the idea of those tiedowns!
Thanks Al and Gino, ideally I’d do a couple of do overs on the pump filter and other tags, but you won’t believe how S glue adheres sheet styrene to the resin fittings. Even using a tiny pry bar they won’t shift.
Appreciate your support guys.
Yes Gino, getting closer!
ETA Used an unbonder to get the labels off. To be replaced tomorrow.
Got the tags redone. Im going to fab the 1.5mm thick extension to the pump frame base and hopefully leave openings for the fork lift to pick the unit up.
Pic tomorrow if it works.
