M813 with Fuel Tanks and Pump Unit (TPU)

I wouldn’t hold that against you Gino :+1: I can see other M800-series trucks in my future too. Tractor, wrecker, tractor wrecker, bridge truck and a “canvas rolled forward “
wagon towing……….something.

Hood assembly on the frame, needs some filler and I’ll get to that tomorrow. Battery box in place.

Really happy with the modifications MikeyBugs made. This is proving to be a great little project.

Dude, that is really lookin’ good. What kind of wash did you use on the tires?

Thanks Al,

A wash of Tamiya Desert Yellow XF59.

Got the air filter in place, had to fill the air hose inlet in the engine side panel as it’s too far forward, went for a butt joint in the right place. Gaps around the hood are mostly filled.

Anyone know if the side window glass frame was part of the door - or not?
Pondering having cab windows lowered so…….

No, the frame is on the glass. When down, there is nothing above the top of the door ledge.

Thanks Gino. The last pic suggest the window lowers only to the corner triangle-shaped frame section. Or is that posed? The second pic suggests they go all the way into the door.

The windows go all the way down, flat w/the top of the door. I just leave the windows off to replicate them rolled down.

Thanks again Gino, I figured I’d drop the p/s window and leave the d/s door and tailgate open.

Your knowledge is amazing!

Still many nuts and bolts missing inside cab…

Anyway, moving on I got the tiedown L brackets scratched and in place. Will start on the NATO tritone later this week.

Got some paint down. My airbrush skills are cr$p for tri tone but it should tidy up under clearcote and weathering. On with painting the two 600 gallon tanks tomorrow. And then the tiedowns, parts of these only arrive next week.

Moving along. Have to take off the rearmost tiedown brackets to fit the pump unit. Tanks need more work including a flat coat. More tank plumbing and labeling for the air filter housing tomorrow.

Looking really good. The exhaust stack should not be silver on a standard M813 though. This gets painted the same as the rest of the truck. They may get a little rusty from the heat and elements, but are not usually silver.

The only ones I have seen w/silver pipes are restorations where new pipes have been replaced and not painted, like below.

The only other time was on some M54 guntrucks in Vietnam.

Thanks Gino, will be dealt with tomorrow. Instructions call for “smoke” I think, but then the M54 was a ‘Nam era truck. The door handle position is also shown as horizontal, not the correct (at least from what I’ve seen) vertical position.

Could you take a few pics closer of the front of the hood and the head lights. thanks

NICE! Great to see all the sub-assemblies come together. Your camo is beautiful. The tanks look great and the truck is amazing. Following along, this was 1000 little jobs but the sum total is just outstanding.
