Thanks Chris, praise from Ceasar!
No, this vehicle has not been in battle, it is however, a common artifact of normal wear and tear, widely observed (apparently) on Namers - the top angled top run of the grill is exposed to collision with obstacles more often than on Merkavas (for some reason), where the exhaust cover grill is flat - whereby the 15mm bolts that attach the grill, four per run, become damaged or detached and the grill becomes bent.
Many have the grills removed all together. The only thing about that particular aspect of the model that i wasn’t entirely sure was correct, was the exhaust staining, because I think in reality, it would stretch along the exhaust outlet, and where the grill is has become detached, there should perhaps be some rust around the bolt hole. However, I didn’t drill the hole because it is a PE piece and i don’t have the tools to do it.
@Robert_Goldman I understand this to be correct?
I was actually gonna say nice build. Looks amazing …
So yeah … as for the rust around the bolt holes, due to the new coatings part nt and treatments to modern armor rust will not really be something you clearly see unless the areas in question have been burnt
And as I said before nice build looks the part and would do well in competition.
I don’t knock people’s work, model building is a personal thing for most people, and even a rank beginner with no skills leaving glue marks etc gets my respect. I only give constructive criticism . And some can’t even take that.
I’ll tell the newbies that the glue spots can be covered with paint to look like mud. That finger print can be covered with gear. And yeah if something is missing I’ll say what it is and why it should always be there.
Some say thank you and others … oh well such is a solitary hobby.
Keep building them like this. If you compete bring full photo reference of what and why. Cause judges can be a little to judgey…
Thanks Robert!
I would never consider my builds worthy of competition, although i’ve been told before that they are. Besides, its a logistical effort I can sort of do without… but again, thankyou for your kind words.
Like I said your work speaks volumes. And I really think even at the AMPS nationals you would get a lot of attention for this build.
Enjoy your builds and have fun.
I like the final result. However, my opinion only…this thing is begging for diorama setting as rest is topnotch.
Thanks for your kind words.
I tell you something, i’ve never built a diorama so I fear my first effort would look as bad as a Merkava without chains… ![]()
Two reasons really.
I love building the kits, but even with them (this one was an exception - but only just) I run out of steam towards the end of the build and so the thought of all the extra effort and time needed to produce a diorama just puts me off.
I don’t (can’t or wont) do figures. I’m rubbish at them, especially when DPM is in play, and I think you really do need figures in a diorama to make it real.
I closed this topic to let tempers cool down a bit.
I will open it again later, unless I forget about it …
Please remind later.
In case you wonder what happened to some posts:
Some have been deleted.
Some have been edited to keep the useful bits and remove the less usefult parts.
One was edited for clarity since it caused a misunderstanding.
If someone wants to call this editing 'meddling with history" then so be it.
I want to be able to open this topic again but the deleted bits could cause a
reopening of the hostilities.
