Hi all, have decided to pull this out the stash as have another Caunter schemed build on the go too. No build pics I’m afraid, but the kit went together well. Have primed in grey then pre- shaded with red brown. And have just put down the Portland Stone. Will let it set for a bid then mask for the silver grey next.
Nice to see you back at it Jim … and a step away from Star Wars and heavy tracks
I spoke to soon … I just saw your Snow speeder thread lol
Thanks John, yes, the Star Wars obsession is strong with this one!
I’m gonna have to get one of those for my stash! Every time I watch Lawrence of Arabia I want one! I’m a huge fan of T. E. Lawrence!
You should look out for the book , 7 Pillars of Wisdom - excellent read - if you have not already got it of course.
Wife got it for me for Christmas a couple years ago.
Nice work Jim, it looks beautiful. I recently did this kit and found it a true pleasure to build and an easy one at that. It turns into a magnificent model and yours is certainly on it’s way to becoming a masterpiece.
Thanks Matthew @SSGToms, and it is a kit we should all have in the stash for sure Richard @GulfWarrior
The three base colours are on. All from the AK real colour Caunter set. Unfortunately all of them had almost lost all their thinner, and the bottles were properly closed, maybe that’s why they have changed them? Nothing that MLT couldn’t handle! Some tricky masking on the radiator doors… and only one spotlight knocked off, I won’t say how many times.
Having read it, and watched the film several times, I still can’t work out if he was a pillow biter or not.
I still love to visit Clouds Hill (area) - yours and mine spiritual home - and I try to imagine him flying down those roads on the bike through that such idiosynchratic countryside.
Really enjoying this build Jim. I recently did a truck in the Caunter scheme and found it a fun and interesting scheme to do and to see finished. Something about the colors and the straight lines just looks cool. This is no exception and the beautiful paint work is really making the kit shine. The masking sure looks familiar- and I managed to knock a few bits off my build too !
I love how the paint job is turning out! Very nice work!
No one will ever really know, it will always just be speculation. There were reports he actually married for a short period of time while in the Middle east, but they have been ignored or rebuffed by some. He was and will remain a pretty much closed book as to his personal life. He shunned any sort of limelight, was very much into not mixing with people unless through absolute necessity, never really developed close personal friendships with anyone for long periods …
That scheme is started to be your hall mark Jim, along with Berlin cam … very nicely done … its going to look really nice along the Speeder !! ( and Matilda & AT ST )
The film is just that, a film, & may not be accurate?
Still plugging away with this. Gloss and wash done. Matt and chipping next. Oh, and both fender spot lights are waiting to be reattached!
Matt coat, wash and post shading done. Tamiya lp-23 flat clear thinned with mr color thinner. AK2073 paneliner. Tamiya brown and a drop of black heavily thinned with 99% ipa. And a start made on the other bits and pieces.
Spectacular Jim!
Yep…gonna be looking for one of those at my model contest next week!
That’s awesome!
Many thanks Matthew and Richard @SSGToms @GulfWarrior .
I think this one is finished for now. Have chipped and post shaded. Then dusted with deck tan, and used a couple of enamel washes on the wheels. The canvas on the running board is just from the spares box and may be getting put back there. The blue box is from spares too but I really enjoyed painting and weathering that so it’s staying! Might repaint the small red can above it green though. And wanted some colour on the other side too hence the red fuel drum. And the big brown case looked like leather to me in reference shots so tried to make something worn looking.
Another fun little build and I would not hesitate to recommend the kit.
