That’s why I said commercial open source satellite  Like last years airfield attack near Kherson. There was commercial satellite imagery available online within a day or two to do our own armchair BDA.

Funny that I just came across this article on the same subject…

Mainstay Article

It’s no catastrophic kill in the image they show…

“He’s not dead, he’s resting”

Okay, so it’s a “Mobility Kill”; not destroyed, like the An-124 “Myira”, but at least out of the fight for now, while the Russians figure out what has been damaged and not damaged…

The way the Ruscists have been prosecuting this adventure, it’s as good as dead. Replacement parts and know how probably come from Ukraine.

Amazing how many non catastophic kills Ukraine’s rolling around in right now.

The Russians will downplay it as minimal damage and the aircraft will be airborne in no time. I beg to differ. Aircraft have tons of sensitive equipment; specially an AWACS plane like this one. any damage to the radome or any of the equipment inside and you might as well stick a fork in it.

But that’s my opinion.

Built by Beriev in Taganrog (using an Il-76 airframe).
First flight in 1978, some of them are being modernised, unsure about the status of that project.
Highly doubtful if it can be repaired …

Don’t know where the radar and the electronics came from

From the reports at various sources, the Radome suffered extensive damage as did other parts of the aircraft, and with the complexity of the systems in the radome and the limited number of these aircraft now available (8 or 7 now ?) and very poor repair lines… it will probably be out of action for the foreseeable future, so its as good as dead in the water … or on the airstrip…
