I dont think its so much movies, maybe its from knowing other operations and reasons a tiny bit bigger than a tank.

No I get that. We recover equipment one way or another for analysis. Some for technical analysis, and some for target practice weapons analysis. The tale of the original Mig-21obtained by the West via Israel is great stuff to read. Along with its subsequent use to train US pilots on how to best exploit their machines strength’s against its’ weaknesses over the deserts of Nevada is a whole separate great tale.
But our snake eaters usually don’t do that sort of work with foreign equipment. That is more for the spooks of CIA employ.

I hadn’t heard that one before, but it makes perfect sense. Those are the secret squirrels who only ID themselves with a first name and perhaps a “Mr.” prefix before the name… never a last name like the Mr Clark of Tom Clancy works.
I’m surprised that the neighbor who was stationed at Ft Bragg couldn’t ID a Hip. That’s a classic old school Soviet design, stablemate of the Hind. And we sure used to train on that one for aircraft ID. But then again the Army ain’t what it used to be.

If I remember right, he is John Clark in the series…

Its deeper

Your close, but far also. And thats the smoke and mirrors. You would have to dive deep into the series to know.
