As modelers we shouldn’t complain. Some of these scenes would make great dioramas. Many offer the chance to use one kit on a number of dioramas. Great value for money.
With all this ‘latest and greatest’ getting captured, the Western intelligence will be salivating like Pavlov’s dog. I can see engineers crawling all over these like fat kids on cake… It will also give model companies an ability to get info on finer details right too.
I guess no chance of T-14’s getting fielded now - they will be too scared they will lose a few of them too.
Yeah, sadly I think you’re right Jon, I have been looking at all the images I could find since the invasion and it’s build up, but I can’t see my version (I think it’s the early type of Pantsir going by the rear oblong radar) in any of them…so it looks like it’s going to back to the sand … Never mind…
That radar will burn up quite unrecognizably…
I find sneakers to be too flexible, lacking in tread, never waterproof and not at all durable.
sneakers can be had with a tread pattern if you look around. Sneakers are not warm, but seem to shed water quicker than conventional leather boots do. The down side is lack of high ankle support. They also are usually much lighter in weight. Running shoes would be worthless!
I don’t think anybody has ever issued the perfect boot. Some were better than others and some simply sucked. Best I ever saw was the run of Timberlines they made for SF back in the seventies. Even a standard pair of Timberlines from the original company would be better than any issued boot today. I have a pair of their hunting boots that look almost new, and bought them in 1980. They will not get wet inside and are Thinsulate insulated. Down side about them is that they are a pain to get on or off. Original Herman Survivors would be my next choice.

Yeah, we were bad-a$$.
Actually, just something we used to do in my rock climbing days — even in knee-deep snow. Just us… nobody else was out.
After an hour or two of trudging-out to the base of the crag, we’d take the sneakers off, place them in the sun to dry and switch to rock shoes for the day. ![]()
PS: Not talking military use here… Thank you for your service.

Nice pics- there’s usually an interesting variety of kit and uniforms in Soviet pictures from Afghanistan.
There are a few scale depictions of troops in Afghanistan wearing sneakers too- TANK model have one or two at least in their range.
I’m not a Vet. I was talking about protracted use in varied weather. I even wear hiking boots at the gym. Much more solid under heavy loads. The only thing I wear sneakers (Brooks) for is sessions on the treadmill.
I can’t imagine deploying and relying on footwear that wasn’t overbuilt. Probably tough (or at least very slow) to get deliveries from Danner or others under those circumstances. Also… it’s amazing how many companies do not make EE width boots or sneakers.
Not many 1/35 tractor kits around. Wonder how 1/32 diecast would look if weather a bit.
Weathered and detailed a bit and they will work just fine. I have one on the way for just that purpose. It is a German-made Fendt like seen below.

There are actually a number of tractor kits available. The Hasegawa kit of course, but Balaton Models has at least 12 different kits, all of Eastern European design so most appropriate here.
I always associate Russian soldiers w/ adidas sneakers as spetsnaz.
True or urban legend?
Nice KA.
Going to freestyle or copy one of the pictures?
They seem to have that look about them. The average Russian soldier back then made a few dollars per month, barely enough to get by on. However, I would think Spetsnaz, like USSF, receives incentive pays for various skills.
I have been following Frenchy’s postings and I noticed early on there were some T 90’s and T 80’s. They seem to have dropped off and the T72 is the dominant tank appearing on the posts followed by the T 64. Have they pulled back the T 80’s and 90’s that remained or are they just surviving in higher numbers, more so than the T72’s, so you don’t see their wrecks.?
I was watching the news on Ukraine yesterday and saw an interesting fighting vehicle setup. It can be easily done…
i can’t find any Tank company figures particularly the modern era Russian figures here in the UK, so if you know anyone that sells them could you let me know
Found this interesting video of unboxing the NLAW missile.
