I did a burnt out tank years ago. What I found out was what I thought and what was reality were two different things. I was thinking an entrance hole. some flat black paint and a couple bent pieces of metal. Reality was so much different. My suggestion from someone who has already gone down that road is to find a good photo. If you can get multiple photo’s, great. You may have to find photo’s of multiple vehicles to get the different sides of the vehicle. I started with the larger components and started modifying them individually. I discovered new ways to do things to accomplish the look I wanted. One technique I discovered was the use of aluminum foil. I was doing fuel tanks on the fender so I pressed the foil over the area I needed. I then bent and damaged the foil. I cut off the portion of the fuel tank I wanted damaged and applied the damaged foil.
In reality there was not much black paint involved. Pinks, tans, grays were more prominent. I closely followed the colors on the photograph. and it looked great.
I needed burnt roadwheels and I had to use baking powder for the ash from the burnt rubber. It was a voyage of discovery of how to make the effects I needed in the photo. I still use some of those techniques today. Build the kit like a ship modeler. Start with the hull. Start with the interior if visable and work up and out. Vehicles like this need to be built on a base. As soon as you can, get the hull situated and attached to the base. Damage, parts and pieces and colors will extend onto the base. Stick to the photo’s, replicate what you see, use your wits, don’t hurry the project and you will not need a video. You will end up with a great build.

I’ve been meaning to try a burnt out hulk myself. I have a damaged T55 resin turret I picked up somewhere and a derelict Tamiya T55 that I plan on using. Your insights are helpful. Thanks.

The figures can be a start.

My build was of a knocked out Syrian tank from the Golan Heights. I would say plan the base as part of the build. I kept mine mostly sand and small rock so as not to distract from the tank. However the opposite approach could be taken and the base could be a dynamic addition to the scene such as a knocked out panzer 4 as a defensive position from a close assault with troops huddled around it.

And they all look like they need a lot of repairs on them…

BBC - Bucha Street littered with destroyed Russian armour

That street saw some action in my opinion.

those vehicles don’t look like they have been loaded very well. the fact that hatches have been left open exposing the vehicles to the elements suggests that no one cares about them which might mean they are seriously damaged.

however it is good to see them being moved out of Ukraine.

I think in twenty years from now this picture will be the title of a book or two, something like 2022- the year when globalisation died, or 2022 - start of the end of Russia, or The Chinese century, or something like that.

I think this shows that these soft vehicles are taking a lot of small arms fire and they are trying to defend themselves.

Looks like the T64 took a hit in the skirt.

At the very least, burnt out Russian vehicles are a great source for motorcycle parts. This fuel valve is just ugly enough to be cool, plus it’s functional, and I’ve got a lot of them. Even quite a few tank and howitzer parts as well.

Nice!

that last picture looks more like a model than the real thing!

Oh I don’t know, bit of black nasty and they’ll be good as new.

Will Smith is one of my all time favorite actors, but my favorite stuff is also non violent. Bagger Vance for one. As for comedy, it’s Bernie Mac for me!
