I really like the stream near the tunnel entrance but maybe I’m confused about the main stream – wasn’t this originally a summer scene? Somewhere down the thread winter discussions came in so is it now a semi-frozen dio? If so no problem, otherwise it looks too frothy/white to my eyes. I could believe where it’s gushing out of the rock like in a thaw, almost blurred which is great, it’s just the lower bits that bother me. Just a minority opinion, whatever you gotta be happy I didn’t mention the F-word. F-a-c-e :tumbler_glass:

Hi all,

I have started to build the Italeri Staghound MK1 and am a tad confused…normal for someone of my age, :smile:.

The exhaust outlets, in the instructions seem, to me, to suggest that they point straight back at right angles to the hull (see image below).

However, the painting diagram seems to suggest that they’re angled to the right when viewed from behind (see image below).

Has anyone built this kit and had the same issue, or does anyone know the correct orientation. I have tried finding online images of the rear, but nothing of use could be found, :disappointed:.

Well, I’ve been diggin in my references, and all pics of the rear that I found, had no pipes fitted whatsoever:




I know these are pics of factory fresh A/C’s so they might have been fitted later.
Edit: the one in Bovington:

I found one drawing in a Osprey book, which does show them, pointing outward. This is a 1955 Italian police vehicle:


And one having them pointing to the rear:

I guess you can’t do very much wrong with this one, but I’d probably leave them off…

The little book that comes with the kit has one photo from 1953 showing right one turned in. A later museum piece as the left turned in and right missing.

The TM doesn’t show one either:

Both of these examples have them off too.

The technical details in the reference book pg 11 also show no pipes.

That seems to be the trend.

Haven’t looked at all this but more references.

Quite a mixed bag: stub, non-existant, pointed to the rear…

Maybe it’s a matter of production line chronology or model, a development upgrade perhaps?

My apologies for not responding sooner, however, thank you both for all the images and links relating to the exhaust, :slightly_smiling_face:, Looking at them I think you’re both right that the modeller has a choice as there doesn’t appear to be a right or wrong way, :smile:.

Having taken the time to drill out the ends of the exhaust pipes I’ve decided to use them, and will position them facing rearward as sideward looks, imho, awkward symmetry-wise, :roll_eyes:.

Thnks for taking the time to comment, I’m no expert, initially I thought it might be that the exhausts hadn’t been fitted solidly enough, but I think your suggestions are more likely as it does seem to occur quite a lot, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Hi all,

I have been more than a tad lax with this build of late, what with one thing and another, :disappointed:.

And, if I’m totally honest, in part to having come to hate this kit, :disappointed:. It seems to have fought me all the way through the build, e.g. the Italeri plastic, imho, is horrible (not sure if the Tamiya variant is better?), and the sprue connections are chunky. Minor niggles maybe, but added to that the location of many of the parts is a tad vague and therefore not very secure, also, again imho, the instructions are sometimes vague and illogical in their layout.

To be fair, some of the dislike of the kit might be the result of my own inexperience and lack of patience , especially as my frustration grew, :roll_eyes:…anyway, gripe over, :slightly_smiling_face:.

I didn’t post any images of the build as it’s an established kit, and coverage of its construction has probably been done to death, but I have now got to the stage where I’m beginning to add colour, so a few images of the main hull below.

The wheels aren’t fixed yet, so that I can remove them for painting, and the turret build is done and awaiting priming.

Here’s wishing everyone as merry a Christmas as possible under these trying circumstances, I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe festive period, :smile:.

Nice progress thus far. Really enjoy the SBS.

I understand, part of the reason it sits off to the side. Between this kit and the M47, I am not having a run of good luck with Italeri but I have in the past with there other kits.

I like how your Stag looks, I can only hope mine looks 1/2 as good when done.

I must say that I like the you Staghound very much… No indication of struggle has been left. So I’d say, walk on, nothing to see here :wink: Oh, wait: that should be: HALT, this is great to look at!!!
