When I was in NATO back in the early 2000’s, that bit was going around as the latest NATO attempt at standardization.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this classic movie. Tank starring James Garner.

Thanks to my insomnia, I found this movie at around 2:00 am one time and ended up watching it.

“The Steel Lady” from 1957.

An American M24 Chaffee customized to represent German armor.

Looks like an early war M4A2 Sherman, those typically ended up being Lend-leased to the Brits and Russians while we used the A3s. The Brits modeded them with the QF17 main guns and they became the VC Firefly.

Actually it’s an early “small hatches” M4A3, with post-war upgrades including torsion bars on the engine deck. There’s a Britmodeller thread on it: Sherman from 1984 "Tank" movie - 1/35 - WIP - Work in Progress - Armour - Britmodeller.com

It looks like a direct-vision hull, but something is off. From what I can see it looks like the fixed periscope has been plated over, and a spurious “vision port” put into the front applique armour plate.

Did anybody see “Is Paris Burning”? They had plenty of real Shermans, courtesy of the French Army

Great movie. They managed to edit lots of real film footage into it.

Did you know the script was co-written by Francis Ford Coppola and Gore Vidal of all people?

Yes I recall that in the credits. Very good film done in the style of Longest Day or Bridge Too Far. I read the original book a few years before seeing the movie. They film makers and script writers kept quite close to the source material from what I remember.

He’s actually probably doing better now than then.

Let’s face it, he’s aged well, and he’s a prolific writer and producer for lots of great performers. He was on the radio here in the UK just before Christmas talking about his career. Its actually very interesting.

Saw Billy perform many years ago when he toured with The Who for their Quadrophenia concerts. Excellent concert from all performers.
