We are both supportive of each other’s hobbies and interests, she crochets stuff,we had a craft show in our subdivision and she sold $400 worth of stuff which was nice, and she plans to have a booth at a local Farmers Market this fall. She comes with me to shows, and has been to a lot of military museums around the country, and I even set up a visit to a lavender farm for her,so it goes both ways.

She does enjoy buying clothes and shoes as much as I do models, but both of us are logical enough to stay within reason. My anniversary gifts the last few years have been bigger ticket items like Andy’s 1/16 kits and a new compressor this year,so its been good since 1982 when I started up again.

Here was a good cartoon, not sure if it was here but it’s funny

For the sake of historical (and linguistic) accuracy “Pennsylvania Dutch” is an english corruption of Pennsylvania Deutsch. The area in question (Pennsylvania and New York, more or less) was highly populated by German immigrants at the time (1700 -1800s). If I remember correctly, German, in many areas, was spoken more widely than English. They were eventually bumped out of first place by the Irish.

Indeed “platz deutch” survives in Pennsylvania and Ohio among the Amish.

The Dutch are so-called because much of Holland was settled millenia ago by Germanic tribes. I used to work with a Dutch guy (here in the UK) who described his native language as German with a throat disease!

Darn Irish, they can’t even throw the cow over the fence some hay. BTW, I’m Irish and grew up in the Deutch area around Philly.

If you mean plattdeutsch, I can’t imagine an entire region where people sound like Werner.

My maternal grandmother was descended from Irish immigrants to Philly in the mid 1800s, and my maternal grandfather from German immigrants to New York, also in the 1800s. I have the whole set! :joy:

Plattdeutsch is disappearing (nationwide TV and radio tends to suppress dialects)
but it used to be the daily language in the coastal areas
" It has been estimated that Low German has approximately 2–5 million speakers in Germany, primarily Northern Germany (ranging from well to very well),[14] and 2.15 million in the Netherlands (ranging from reasonable to very well).[1]: 88"

Still spoken by the older generations, they can/will speak platt among themselves and switch to “proper” German to be polite to outsiders.

I’ll probably get done in for this one

My wife laughs, as I do the grocery shopping and all the cooking too. She would never complain about my cooking, even if I sometimes do. I’ve been praised as being a gourmet chef (which I’m not) in a published newsletter for feeding a group of hungry cavers in the middle of nowhere. I have a small cult following as well. :man_cook:

One of the first gifts my future wife bought for me was a signed copy of David Pentland’s “Counterattack at Villers Bocage”. She buys models for me and is happy that I have a hobby that keeps me busy instead of bugging her. All quiet on the Western Front…

I also do the grocery shopping. Don’t mind at all as it’s a nice time to listen to podcasts or blow my eardrums out listening to Metal on my mp3 player. A favorite for shopping is Sweden’s Dark Tranquillity - “Fiction.”

Publix just stocked Grana Padano cheese, which I was very pleased to see and purchase as I want to cook Sicilian spaghetti. I do cook some as well.

Regarding modeling, had more time before I had kids. Have a very modest stash of Panther F and Panther II kits. A few others as well. Nothing like some of you.

Really want to get on my SW Panther F as a sort of “What if?” which got out of Daimler-Benz.

The Panther IIs, I just want to basically use as test beds for painting techniques.

I am intrigued by the Amusing Hobby Rheinmetall Turret Panther II as I was informed that this turret was a legitimate projected turret for the cancelled Panther II project.

I work a lot. Was working for a year seven days a week, leaving me little spare time. Might have to work this weekend. So much testing and calibrating to do. We’ll see.

I love coming here to see and admire others’ work. For me, it’s an online historical art museum.

I too come here every early morning to check out and admire everyone’s work. I go down the entire Armorama forum and read every post. I give everybody lots of likes. I feel it helps keep traffic flowing and it builds my mojo for the day. Armorama forums is my home.

Wife is ambivalent toward my hobby. Stopped showing her my work ages ago. Her usually comment was “that’s nice.” On the other hand she dose watch estate sales and online auctions for items related to modeling. Couple of years back scored nearly 100 bottles of MM and Poly Scale acrylics, and Floquil. She lets me go to pretty much all the shows that I usually go to. If it’s an overnight trip she will make the hotel arrangements for me. In return I go with her to the estate sales, take her to pick up anything she might have bought at auction. We’re both retired so we eat lunch out 2-3 times a week and we take trips. So I guess we have a pretty good balance.

My wife, not exactly hates my hobby,
but ,complaining a lot, about were we are to put them, then shows me a glass cabinets on local 2 hand sites:roll_eyes:, and gives me choices of models or clothes for birthdays, clothes are over rated, so more kits to stash:hugs:,
She realise years ago I get grumpy when bored, so sends me to fix things at the daughters house, or send me to the cellar now days.

It’s the comments from other women , like, you let him make them ,he’s not a kid anymore.or he needs to grow up.

Mean while there partners drooling around the cabinets.
