actually michael those are two books on my intended reading list. i just finished reading the fighting corsairs and want to get the shattered sword next. pacific payback i’ve known about for a while but have not got around to looking for the book. latley i order from amozon.
nice looking build. how ere the landing gear as far as assembly goes? the hobby boss i did they were poorly designed. as far as the canopy goes i did the same thing but i needed the vac form canapy because i broke the kit one. the squadron canapy had undefined frame structure so i painted some decal and cut the framing out.

That’s what I should have done with the canopy also.
The landing gear on the Tamiya kit is very nice. Just a little fiddly and you have to be careful to get it seated squarely on the bulkhead, but it really looks the part when it’s done. I’d rate the F4F somewhere between their early efforts like the Buffalo and their latest kits like the P-38, shading towards the newer stuff in quality.

Nice job Michael! We don’t see to many “Operation Torch” birds, and fewer Wildcats. Well done! Also, Shattered Sword is a well done book that really does lay out how the Japanese fire control was a bit lacking.
Maybe not as close to finish line as my Mustang for Hot out of the molds 2022 campaign, but it was pretty darn close to let the Wildcats due pass into Hangar Queens 2023
This is a fantastic kit from Arma Hobby, but quite challenging, especially landing gear. Many tiny, fiddly parts, they look superb when done properly, buuut… that’s not the case of my F4s . I managed to dissasemble them few times, break them and do some other nasty thingsies… So they are twisted now, on both.
Had some other disaster (well, the build with at least one major one is not a proper build for me apparently ). No matter of difficulties I’m calling them done.
So here they are:
FM-2 Wildcat BuNo 16262/B19 VC-10 squadron from USS Gambier Bay flown by cpt Herman Hardness during Mariana campaign,(June 1945)
Wildcat Mk Vi JV768/S-X 882 FAA squadron from HMS Searcher flown by lt. Ronald Moore during Operation Prefix , Trondheim, Norway (march 1945)
And a family photo
Nice finish Radek! Wildcat landing gear is notoriously fiddly, they look spot on to me. Both are fine representations, and the family photo is a nice touch.
Well done, Radek! I’d give a lot to know what the designers at Grumman were on when they designed that landing gear (let alone the wing folds).
Only a couple of days left everyone. Better get cracking!
Michael
