The folks in Richmond Virginia have a convention tomorrow; I’m taking the wife down there this evening and we’re going to spend a few days in Colonial Williamsburg right after. I have no connection to this show and this is my first time going but hope some folks in here get to go too!
Great; hell of a venue.
If you can, please report back with pics - I always take great inspiration from shows, even if removed by a considerable distance(!)
I always take pictures but I guess it’s time I posted a few, thank you for the idea. I’ve been going to MosquitoCon in NJ and the Fairfax City con for a few years but this is my first time to Richmond’s con. Oh, and it’s an even year so MarauderCon in Level Maryland is this year. My wife is retired so there’s more time to see the conventions in the area.
ODO is a good show. Been to the show many times. I will be the tall good looking guy in a carolina blue Eagle Squadron polo.
I’ll be the tall ugly guy in a grey jacket and a “ Proud Veteran” tee shirt.
There will be a few of them there. ![]()
God, sounds like British shows, whereby the undead come out to play, often replete in the most absurd semi-military ensembles would could envisage. I mean, it must take a certain type of person, just before they leave their abode that very morning, to look in the mirror, and say something like, “Yup, this is the look I’m after; let’s roll;. I’m ready to visit a model show”. They all look cloned from some mad template: somewhere, there will be some camouflage material, often straining under a vast stomach. There will often be headdress ranging from Waffen SS caps to cavalry Stetsons. Oh, don’t overlook the piercings, the dyed hair, ponytails on middle-aged men, halitosis, and the general miasma of unwashed flesh and manky clothing
Yet they pay to see my stuff - sigh
PS: “Yes”, I am a snob(!)
I’m still struggling with the “huge kit drawing” - is that a sketch of a very large kit, or an enormous sketch?… ![]()
As for Brian’s observations, how dare he describe all my mates? ![]()
The raffle will have over 50 kits you can win. They are usual good modern kits and not old dud models.
Hah! It’s the old dud models that draw me in - but then - I have a perverse nature. Give me something obscure - ideally of Sov/Warsaw Pact origin, by say, Eastern Express (sorry Eastern Express) made of a dodgy carcinogenic plastic, that will mutate whilst in the attic stash and eat away at the joists over time.
Man, I can’t finish the competent models I have. No way do I wanna wrestle with some Pyro ancient relic. Also, I’m a completist so entering the dud market would wreck my budget trying to get one of every dud.
I dream of ancient Pyro!
When I was a kid, I was fascinated with dinosaurs, and my local model shop had the Pyro versions in stock; how I yearned to buy one and make it. Never to be: my pocket money wouldn’t stretch that far to US imports and my parents saw no merit in nurturing the hobby (didn’t see much merit in nurturing me come to that).
When did we meet? I haven’t been to a model show in england.
Had a fine time today, everyone very nice. Got a few sets of track, some figures and one French Panhard hot rod plus some tools and paints. Show was much more cars (esp. NASCAR which was fitting at the Richmond NASCAR track) and Gundams not so much armor or ships. Took a zillion photos but my skills are bleah..
The raffle was about 400 kits total and 45 in the “special” category.
The special ticket was $5, forgot the other one.
I only bought the Roden and Gecko kit, the rest was raffle winners. Not a bad haul overall.
Sorry we couldn’t connect, more than a few people there. I talked to about 15 people, new and old club members and vendors.
1/72 scale, the dampers are drilled out with the rigging going through. 0.002 size if I recall correctly. An old club members build.
3d printed dino that was huge.
A 1/35 Gundam hunting club.
@BootsDMS I thought you had made the show as this had you written all over it.
Found this one interesting.
Hah! I wish! Anything to escape Februarys’ grim and drizzly days.
I haven’t tackled an AVRE Cent - I suppose I should really. A lot of work though, Sapper kit.
Oddly enough, the weather today was spectacular. Mid 60s (Fahrenheit), light breeze and sunshine. Really the best weather in months here.
There’s some great pics here Guys; a couple of hundred more would be welcome of course(!)
