Well I read it all the way thru grunt style… mostly just looking at the photos 
and even that way, it did take some time, but it was a great read with my morning mug of coffee.

Right now I am finshing up the counterattack from Marcelet and the Scottish continuation of the overall operation south past Cheux towards the Odon River.

Jerry, loving this. I like the tear in the PGs trousers. It’s also a bit spooky how we seem to be on the same wavelength - I’m currently reading “Battle of the Odon” by Georges Bernage. The first day the 49th ID, the “Polar Bears” put in a less than successful attack to protect the right flank of “Epsom”. The Dukes in particular got well worked over…
Bad day for the Dukes,yes. Lt Render writes about that episode in his book about the Sherwood Rangers. Operation Martlet did have an unintended consequence though. The German tanks were all drwan over to the left of the 12$$ sector that evening for a morning counterattack and so the Scots had zero armor to face the next day.

Both Max Hastings’ “Overlord - D Day and the Battle for Normandy” and Carlo D’Este’s “Decision in Normandy” refer in detail to this account; Hastings’ book has the report in full.

I have had Max Hastings book for years, about time I read it again
In all fairness the Dukes went on to have a nice combat record afterwards.

Not Epsom related but…
Once in a while I like to take a break from a larger project and do a small one just for the sense of completion.
So staying in Normandy at least I am working on a jumper from my old gang. Early morning June6,Normandy.

Awesome work on this project!
One note. The gloves favored by US Airborne troops were leather “horse riding gloves, unlined”
They’d vary in shade and some details but were generally tan and very much like the gloves you can buy in the hardware store. Epsom took place in June so OD wool gloves are an unlikely choice.
