Nice! I built one back in that day, think I gave it to a younger cousin. Did manage to get another to replace it sometime after. It’s still unbuilt somewhere at my parents. It is a large model. I think I used black pastels for the scorching when I did it.
The only part I was disappointed with was the closed turret hatch. I really wanted it to be openable with a droid commander sitting in it.
Of your creations familiar to me, this is my favorite. While obviously designed as an ornithopter, it reminds me of sea creatures with paddles running down the entire body length on both sides. It also reminds me of the Mission Adaptable Wing (MAW) tests performed in the 1980s.
I wonder if a series of thin wings could function like the undulating wings on a cuttlefish and serve as a functional flight surface. It may be worth exploring even if mechanically, the idea is madness.
I always think more of a very sophisticated pattern of different oszillating wings with a relativ small range of movement, instead of the brutal “up and down” of a mechanical bird ( what always seems a bit dumb for me ) .
I think with a bit of practice and skills one can open that hatch and scratchbuild some interior (seat and instrument panel) plus add a proper scaled figure of almost any kind.
As colour scheme it could be any camo. A distant planet of an unknown Galaxy may need orange-blue pattern due to different kind of sun radiation
The engraving on the hatch is quite heavy from what I remember. But the plastic is also quite thick. A bit beyond my skill set and tools at the time (plus no Droid in the right scale. There were still plenty of the Phantom Menace action figures but they were much bigger than the kits 1/32 scale). It wouldn’t be impossible to, but needs the right balance between brute and delicate cleaning up.
Funnily enough talking about alternative colours, I do remember having the idea of finishing it as a Rebel tank. Light grey with red/orange stripes. I can well imagine old tanks being refurbished and modifying the controls to work for an organic humanoid. Probably an astromech plugged in to take over the old Droid input.
Until I can find it, any plans to modify it in any way will be filed away.
I ordered this resin update set…including all new engine bells, new small engine thrusters, new hanger bay, new shield generators, garbage disposal chute, front half of the bridge, vehicles in scale, and all kinds of tubing and greeblies to detail the destroyer. I ordered from Mojo Modelworks on ETSY, and he was very quick in replying to my questions.
I also have a really nice plexiglass stand I ordered from EBay……
Hahaha because i do nothing else than cutting, carving and glue together again. Every modell the same procedure… but it is all about the trainig, the engine job needs around 60 minutes and fit nearly perfect with a minimal amount of putty.
Yesterday morning i was thinking about this 262 wings “ how often have i done this cut” ? ( could be 40-60 times that i use only the wings of this kit )
That’s what I envy, the capacity to blend two surfaces that curve in more than one direction and have them look like they were intended to fit that way…
My entry for 2026’s Sci-Fi campaign is an ETSY 3D-printed 120mm (1/16) Cyber-girl/woman.
I’ve decided not to continue with my Wondercraft Tokyo resin mech due to the complications of gluing the parts since the instructions are pretty vague and poorly drawn. I still have to figure out how to glue that mech kit together so I set it aside. I wanted to make something fun and easy for 2026.
The figure already comes with the printing sprues cut off extremely well. I need to do some light sanding and then wash, prime, and start painting.
The figure comes printed one-piece with a backpack and frame, helmet with visor, hoses, open puffer jacket, and a pistol, no assembly required. The other hand holds a trigger remote device.
I’m considering on if I want to add some doodads to it for extra detail, or leave it “As is” because it seems pretty nice and sleek the way it is.
@Floridabucco I am really looking forward to follow this StarDestroyer kit and see what difference the detail kit does. It looks very comprehensive and with great sharp details.
