Wow that looks great.
It’s over the years things just seem to get worse, it’s s**t getting old. Well I’ve managed to get everything on that I can think of, laser detectors, bumps pads which hang down from the turret hatches and a few other bits and pieces and then primed it. I’m still looking for something to use to make one of the TES antennas as it has a strange bulbous shape as in the pic below. I’ll get there in the end.
Just use a thicker wire, with a blob of medium / thick super glue, On left of basket.
Looked at wrong location
, then seen the red circle
, think that’s vehicle location antenna BATUS.
Bottom of a wonky pot maybe
Its annoying as I used to know exactly which TES fitting did what, but it all slipped away when you havent used it for years and years … I think that one circled was the TES data link/upload that monitors everything to do with the TES system, engagement ranges, if you hit or miss and by how much, time TES systems were used went live etc this was linked to ExCon out on the Plain for the big de briefs in between each phase and the tall antenna to the left with the blob top was the Veh GPS tracker linked direct to ExCon.
I still manage to keep relatively up to date as my son is serving, but I’d love to serve on some of the wagons coming into service at the moment or in the near future. Got a couple of coats of Modern British Army sand on it and my 28 gauge (0.3mm) black coated copper wire rocked up. This will save a bit of heartache as I usually end up having to do endless touch ups when I paint wiring.
That might be an idea, I think I have one somewhere from my Chieftain build as I didn’t use it.
Carrying on with the detail painting. I’ve painted the TES kit, main sights and vision blocks. Silvered the bearing surface on the mantlet which you sometimes see painted but in reality should always be bare or lightly oiled metal. I can see some overspray from that on the mantlet itself so that and other small areas will need a touch up. Just the hatches to do and then gloss coat it for a pin wash and decals.
Doing some great work here mate with lovely attention to the detailing.
This is going to look rather special ![]()
This is going to look stunning when you’re done mate
That attention to detail will be the end of me. I noticed that the hatch opening didn’t have a raised edge to simulate the seal so I used very thing styrene strip to create one. The hatch itself is meant to have a lip also, however I just could not get the styrene to bend properly and risked ruining the part so I’ve left it. I need to add the imbedded rubber seal into the hatch also, this will be drawn on using a permanent pen. The hatch pads have been painted, they look a little strange in colour as the reference pic I have shows a very faded green/grey colour. To tell the truth I’m not that happy with them and will probably re-paint, just need to mix a close colour.
Looking fantastic! Great detail and paint job on that turret!
That’s well faded with the sun, use the colour of the pad inside the vehicle
That is looking great.
Cheers fellas. Progress so far, I’ve gloss coated the turret and done a pin wash. Painted the barrel and just have it plonked in there at the moment. Same with the vehicle GPS mast in the turret centre, They’re both begging to be damaged as I do weathering. A small point but added the jubilee clip to the trough as they’re notorious for coming loose when the gun fires. I repainted the hatch pads to better reflect the faded green/grey of my reference pics and put the turret callsign numbers on. Just noticed the bin needs a touch up to the black seeping round the side.
Outstanding work mate
Terrific work! The camo came out great!
Looking good buddy … nice touch with the jubilee clip … what did you use ? the pin wash does give it some nice depth .
Wine bottle foil mate, cheap as chips and I’ve got enough to last a life time. I’ve just sealed the pin wash in with another coat of Klear ready for weathering and started on the wiring for the TES and will post some pics tomorrow. The black wire looks really good, can’t believe I’ve not bought any before now.
A quick update with the wiring, as I said the black wire is really good, it’s shiny but it should dull down with the flat coat. I’ve painted one wire green as I have reference pics showing one green wire running from the ejection port to the box on the right hand mount so I thought I’d do it to provide a bit of visual difference. It’s the first model show of the year up here on Saturday so I’m hoping to pick up some barracuda style cam net so I can do the net stowage on the right hand side of the vehicle.
