It is a basic kit, I like that I do not have to remove things, just to add detail and texture. I need to source foundry markings and numbers if I can.
Finished up the bogies for my Sherman III. The track skids are a bit thick and needed to be thinned down. Also, there are bolts available on the sprue for the skids even though they are not mentioned in the instructions.
How odd you finished your bogies about the same time I pretty much finished…and ready for paint. I added aftermarket skid plate from ARTO from South Korea, where the bolts have the safety wire detailed. All road wheels are Asuka and/or Panzer Art since the Tamiya ones are junk. The first two bogies in my pic are photo referenced to having two different road wheels. All in all, great job you’ve done!
Okay, so here we go… I scrolled through this thread and there is some amazing modelling going on here. I will participate with a Dragon IDF M-51 Sherman. Some of you might be shocked when I tell you I have very little interest in the Sherman tank… On the other hand I find the middle eastern wars interesting and in particular how the IDF operate. My tank will be more or less OOB but that might change during the build. Feel free to point out errors but don´t expect me to correct them. I will not buy any aftermarked for this build, but rather focus on a nice, clean build and the paint job. I also have some IDF Miniart figures that will be converted into a more correct six day war crew and hopefully this will end up as a small vignette. So summerized, feel free to rip me a new one…
Looks good and sometimes a nice clean OOB build is all thats needed as long as you have fun doing it … looking forward to it Erik
Some details added to the suspension
The rear plate is a left over from another build, it was way better than the kit one. The same goes for the exhaust deflector.
Before:
After:
The exhausts are leftovers from a M36 Academy build.
Finished detail work
I will now add the auxiliary generator exhaust and the fender mounts. Then I need to work on the gap at the front between the suspension cover and the upper hull. After that the tracks.
Nice choice, Erik! I make no claims to being a Sherman expert, but I’ve done some reading on the M51 and. since you asked, I will point out one big detail issue with the Dragon kit. If you want to do a Six Day War M51, the engine deck and exhaust are incorrect. They are for late M51s, post 1975 I believe. In '67 the exhaust was still on the rear lower hull and not on the engine deck, nor were the louvres there. There’s an article on the M51 on the IDF Modeling site that explains it well. The pics no longer work there, but the descriptions are pretty good. Hope this helps if you decide to make the changes!
How to Build an Israeli M51 Sherman
Michael
Interesting, I will look into it but if it turns out to be too much scratch work I will just build it as it is. As mentioned I´m not a huge Sherman fan and this campaign was a good excuse to build the only Sherman in my stash
Okay, I’ve just got an Italeri kit of the M32B1 ARV and it has markings for an M32 of the 4th Armoured Brigade 20th Armoured Battalion of the 2nd NZEF Italy 1944/45. I built the kit long long ago and I was thinking of buying it for the nostalgia of it. The addition of 4th Armoured Brigade decals sealed the deal!
So here we go my entry Italeri’s M32B1 ARV! Let’s see what I can manage to do with it this time around?

Especially since my “forte” is aircraft!!
Is it just my connection or do the pictures not load?
God damn, I´m up for the challenge. The kit comes with two engine decks so that gives me something to play with. Converting it to an earlier version should be rather easy.
The pics in the link does not work as stated.
I would recommend just pick the corresponding parts from the kit and build it, if you start looking into details you will realize that you need lots of stuff.
I plan to do the most visual stuff and leave the small details. It will definatly not be 100% so the goal is «close enough». Some stowage is also good for «camoflaging» mistakes or errors. What I´m really looking forward to is converting and painting the crew. By some strange reason I´m getting more and more interested in figure painting. Used to hate it, but now all my models has to have at least one figure…
Clever adding the aux generator exhaust. Most forget that little detail. Lets see a photo of it!
-46 here with the wind chill, so mostly staying inside, good for getting bench time in, finished off the lower hull.
Almost 75 degrees here in Florida today…
I take it that’s degrees Celsius?? It’s 24 degrees here currently was 32 yesterday also a very good day to stay inside LOL.
Celsius, Fahrenheit…they are about the same at those temperatures lol!
