I see no reason why it cannot be but I am also not running this campaign.
Brilliant… Thanks now so much stuff for me to trawl through.
Very appreciative. TY
Think it should be ok like Ryan @Tank_1812 said, I read it was initially based on the M3 chassis which then changed over to the M4 chassis… Also, I’m sure someone is building the M32 recovery wagon so if there’s that, then this Priest should be ok…
So I will wait for Michael to decide, like Johnny said, I always thought it was based on an M3.
Good to go by me!
Michael
Thanks!
Been gluing all day, it is a very nice kit, hardly any cleaning to do, fit is great, details are better than that old AMX I did a while ago… will still be adding some bolts and other stuff here and there…
Suspension is still moveable, all wheels are free to drive, gun can freely be elevated and turned from left to right. As you can see I have build it in sections that can be taken apart for painting.
I have another M7, an Airfix version, so want to make both, and both with the guns in firing position.
I have finished and test fitted the Dragon «magic tracks» and I have to say I´m pretty happy with them for being «rubber bands». Gluing on all the centre horns were boring, but they stay together when properly dried. They might be a bit loose but the bogeys are somewhat workable so the can be adjusted a bit. I also by some big mystery had a Tamiya M4A3 in my stash so I got the exhaust pipe for a batch 1 M51 there. What I’m not happy with in this kit is the side fenders. Both the PE and the plastic parts has a very poor fit so I think some battle damage and camoflage will be necessary there…
Cobra King wasnt Abram’s mount. His were all named Thunderbolt. I believe that he was commanding a standard M4A3 76mm during the drive to Bastogne, Thunderbolt VI. His final wartime mount was a M4A3E8 that was uparmored, Thunderbolt VII.
Rear hull and engine deck details
Some cleanup required. I will add some canisters on the fenders, inspired by this photo:
At some point I remembered that the vehicles received a torsion bar system for the engine bay doors but photos show that the original configuration was still in use during the Korean war. I also noticed that the travel lock for the gun had changed but other photos show the original plus the new one in use.
Finally, this is a great photo, showing multiple track types and details that changed between vehicles
I need to add the cable for the phone box as shown here:
the barrel cleaning rods under the stowage rack, the spare track links at the sides of the hull and maybe a bit more stowage but nothing major, I do not want to hide all the pe work I did with the tools. I also need to source some towing hooks for the front and back of the vehicle and check for whatever final details I might be missing.
I now understand why there are not that many finished Dragon M51s around… You build and build and then you build some more. And after that you still have to build some weird thing…
(And I kind of like it )
Thank you.
Cheetah is Canadian, I have the decals except the letters for the name.
The last one is very nice, I was wandering if I could do a vehicle with white stars both on the turret and the hull sides.
I am trying to source out decals for my tank, I have some M26 kits and many m48 decals leftover for the stars and numbers etc but specific lettering might prove difficult. Another option I was considering is to get the Italeri Korea kit that includes 4 decal options but I would need to source tracks for that and AFV club or RFM T-80 tracks are hard to come by lately.
Throwing another Jumbo in the mix, this time it’s the Meng M4A3E2. This one will be Lt. Charles Bogges’ mount, the famous Cobra King. I will however finish it without the “First in Bastogne” markings, so more like she looked in the drive to relieve Bastogne.
I used the Archer set to correct or add the missing casting marks. Tool straps are 3d printed items.
Looks great, got my Meng kit today, any issues or areas to watch out? I do not like the separate duckbills for the tracks, besides that at a first look the kit is very promising.
That was a good one
Jumbo looks mighty fine. The black casting numbers are part of the kit or is that like the Archer resin decals?
It starts to look like a M51… I solved the problem with the side fenders with some simple scratchbuilding. It is not perfect but the fit is way better than the kit parts.with some sanding and paint I guess it will turn out ok.
No real issues, just make sure you test fit before applying glue. I found the build to be easier than I expected.
Those are the Archer decals.
