Shermania 2024

I would agree on not using the pe part 89. Not sure about the engine supports.

Ordered a metal barrel and sand skirts to try on my Asuka early M4A1. Plodding along on the build with all these fiddly 1/35th bits… I think I got lazy doing 1/16th.

You are correct Nikos, no grouser box covers (part 89) and yes to adding the engine door stays.

Building is done on the M4A3E2.

Looks great. I was looking into the Jumbo Shermans (scored a Meng kit at a nice price) and I think that tanks with the 76mm gun did not have the cylinder part around the barrel at the mantlet. But I might be mistaken.

You might want to check it out if you are interested in this kind of details…

Edit: after more research, some of the 76mm Jumbo tanks had the collar removed, not all.

If I want to build this Marine Sherman which Asuka (assuming it’s the best choice) kit should I get?

35-10 mid production, 35-22 late production or another manufacturer?

Detail work continues. I did the front hull and now I am working on the rear hull and the stowage configuration.

Question begs… Are you building her as a generic Jumbo or are you recreating Creighton Abrams’ Jumbo when he rolled into Bastogne to “relieve” the 101st Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge?

Not building Cobra King, but an upgunned 3rd AD tank.

I am also working on Cobra King, but that’s another project. Which will be finished without the “First in Bastogne” graffiti.

Roger that.

Things are moving along; most of the construction is done and the base coat is on. Test fitted the tracks and was pleasantly surprised at the stretch in them. When I last built this kit the tracks were rather tight resulting in the rear idler wheel snapping off on both sides. I considered drilling out the pins and fitting a brass tube in as a strengthener, but I thought I’d give it a whirl before traveling down that rabbit hole! Anyway here’s where I am right now.

Hi bit of a query. I’ve trawled around but cant find any reference to casting marks and locations on the early M4A1 cast hull, hoping one of the more Shermaholics might enlighten me.

Many thanks in advance
Keith

Hey Ryan,
For PTO the Asuka 35022 is the kit to get. I can set you up with one piece AFV Club T49 tracks for it if you want. I have several sets.

Thanks for the input Matt. I have those tracks.

Here is a link to a pdf that shows most of the possible marking locations on a Sherman.

and here is another pdf explaining the markings

Scroll through the various photos on the M4A1 relevant pages here for more details:

I just started an M7 Priest and came across this:

As it says this is based on a Sherman, can I enter this one into this groupbuild?

Because as no one as to yet entered this here, I will take it out of the Fire groupbuild to continue it here.
