Yep. CA and I have a complicated relationship. I know it’s convenient and attractive but I hate it with a passion (specifically my fingers). I went down two roads this time. CA for one set and PVA for the other. PVA obviously requires a level of patience but worked out well.
I also took this opportunity to play with some paint pens on the wheels, I just couldn’t wait. Molotow “signal black” for the rubber and several poor choices of green for the wheels. In the end, just rolled old skool with Tamiya.
How does that suspension compare to Tasca/Asuka’s suspension. I have built several of their M3 suspension for a few of their early Shermans. Those took forever. Currently working on a British Sherman III DV with early suspension. No springs but I used correct thickness foam to give some bounce to them.
The RFM suspension, you mean? I thought it was much the same as Asuka’s, except for having annoying springs that serve no purpose. The solution proved to be:—
I built my first Tasca Shermie two decades ago when they were new, using the foam. It now sits with the lower arms completely horizontal as the foam has given up with time! Use plastic inserts every time…
Is a year even really a year without having built and painted a Sherman? I’ll join in as well. I have a few that I should finish, but I’ll definitely start with this one:
“Hurricane” from the 2nd Armored Division. This tank has been photographed backing onto an LST, still in full OD, with big turret markings, wading trunks and all the trimmings to be able to land on a beach and as shown above, with many of the markings painted over and a nice black and OD camo job.
It’s one of the marking options in the Tamiya M4 kit, but they got it all wrong. They show the tank in the wrong camo job (brown over OD, which should be black over OD) and H2 markings on the turret sides, which had been painted out when Hurricane got her camo paintjob.
I think I’ll be going for the black over OD version of Hurricane, because that scheme just looks good on US tanks in WW2 and I should have a few more of those in my collection.
