I got a little fear before the paint job on the props . So many corners !!
Been working on this one for a bit. I am aiming for something like this.
The floats was built a while back. Tonight I built everything else. Added sheet styrene for the back of the seats.
This seems to become a beautiful model, seeing the original aircraft
Good luck!
Basic colors are on. Some of the resin parts are losing paint, but should be easy to fix. Still some touch ups to do, but looking good so far.
More to follow
Since this is all supposed to be aluminum, I thought I would built it as one to make it easier to putty before paint. Either I will be an idiot or a genius time will tell.
I have finished the touch-ups and added a coat of gloss varnish. From the beginning I wanted to use squiggle camo on top. Now I am afraid to ruin everything
What do you think? Go straight to decals or do the squiggly camo on top?
Well, this is a stretch and I may never finish, but I think I’ll give this campaign a go.

Always the big question, I noticed there’s even a topic named after it… to paint or not to paint…
Hi Jesper, Are you thinking squiggles on top of the splinter pattern you’ve already painted? …

But this Jake has a loftier view!
Image for reference only.
Working bass-akwards — so what else is new? I began building the catapult when I had one of my bright ideas. … Rummaging speed! … And why I collect bottle caps.
Couldn’t ask for a better fit!
Now to add that box thing and a couple of ladders.

Some inspiration Mike. Kit instructions of kits of, or with, Japanese catapults:
@ Peter (petbat). Thank’s. That first pdf is actually the same Hasegawa kit that I’m currently building. The second pdf looks to be a slightly different variant. Assembly is almost done here. The blue bottle cap has been added to extend the height of the base to resemble the reference image.
Here’s a quick catapult dry-fit shot. This went together very nicely. No warping, nice detail, good connection points, very little flash, a few sink marks that I might or might not need to fill (inside).
I believe I have some leftover ladders somewhere, but I’ll need to source some diamond plate for the round deck.
I hope the Jake goes together as nicely as this did.

Mike, what scale is this?
Hi Matthew. It’s 1/72 scale.

Hi Mike @justsendit - exactly! Now I am just worried I will ruin everything. It is difficult to paint squiggles
What do you think? Should I go for it?
I quite like it the way it is Jesper. I don’t recall any German seaplanes with squiggly lines or anything else. This banded camo type is how German seaplanes looked, and although this is a ‘What if’, I would keep the camo period perfect if I was the one doing it.
It is your model though, so go for whatever you want. ‘Nothing ventured, nothing gained’.
I like it as-is. I’m no expert, but I somehow don’t see squiggle camo working over water. Personally, I’d save the squiggles for another more appropriate aircraft. … Like the Heinkel He219 Uhu!

Perhaps just outline the camo with the lighter colored lines and leave it at that. That would still look very impressive!
