Spitfire!

Finally back after a week at DSEi in London. They did not have a Spitfire but there was a pretty decent Typhoon at the Main entrance.
However, back at the bench this evening and preparing the Spit for some decals tomorrow.

Painting is a bit of a way off yet, but got these today in the post.

I get all my AK paints from a little family run business up in Scotland, AMS paints and accessories… Mary provides a first rate service and everything is courier services … I like to use these type of suppliers if possible… the site is well worth a look if you’re on UK …

What do they charge for those bottles where you are? I pay $5 U.S. in the shop; $4.25 if I buy them online. Just curious as to how the different economies value these small items.

It’s the 3 bottle set RAF day colours … £7.50… :+1:

Yeah they are good paints too. I am a Tamiya paint user mainly but AK paints are exceptional too. There xteeme metals are superb.

Decaling done. Eduard has put in a «million» tiny stencils, so it took a long time for a 1/72 kit. I have also done a mistake, painting the tail band a bit too wide :confounded: but it is too late to fix it now. Leassons learned, check your references often (most people will not notice).

ail band is a bit wide bud…
Lol hey that looks great Erik. Well done. Those stencils look a nightmare. 1/72 I would need new eyes after that session.

A brief update on the venerable Frog Spitfire Mk II: having squandered the weekend by watching the Battle of Britain, and drinking gin, I haven’t got much to show. Camouflage scheme just about completed; some detailed painting still required.

I ended up having to scratch a seat as even though the canopy is quite murky one still might identify an empty cockpit. I’ve also been working on the base which is an 8” square of 12mm MDF. I’ve been sanding the sides and applying my usual mahogany-type stain. A brass nameplate has been ordered. The figures will require a little work, not least in trying to bulk out the trousers. 1940s’ issue battledress did not fit like skin-tight Levis, which is what it seems Airfix would have you believe!

These guys showed up today to crew my Spitfires. Really nice casted 1/72 figures from White Stork Miniatures.

Yepp, really looking forward to paint these guys.

I’m hoping to get started on this during the week. It’s only wrong by one syllable

I did some weathering this evening, and started a small vignette.

After I took the picture I cleaned up the tail a bit, noticing some leftover panel liner there.

Great job with your Spit Erik…looks lovely

Little bits done on mine … instrument panel section, and the seat section are finished and installed.

In the end, I just dry brushed some of the raised detail on the panel in white … looks ok to me .

Not going to bother with the pilot figure, so that means a seat belt harness needs to be done

Was looking through the spare PE frets and found the 1/35 German webbing set…

There are several bits on the fret that are a great match for the width of the harness, so I will cobble together something out of that …
