Nice choice, Fred. Looking forward to see more
Hi Rowan,
“Are you going to build the little Kurogane too? Steffen always really liked 1:48 vehicles like that”
I certainly will for him.
Thanks,
Fred
Nice one Fred
Apart from anything else, it’s such a cute little vehicle too!
All the best
Rowan
Antilles: Thanks for sharing your build and providing info to me. I think I’ll do the HobbyBoss -1 version in the near future, but not for this campaign. I have both the Academy and the HobbyBoss kit.
Thank you and take care,
Don “Lakota”
My Tamiya Frank is not cooperating. The upper surface curvature does not match the fillets. Huge gaps.
Much putty required (two applications) followed by much sanding.
Such a shame as otherwise, even this 50-yr-old kit has detail engraving worthy of modern kits.
When I built this kit as a kid, when I had started painting, in a Model Aircraft article on the kit, it was painted with Imrie / Risley dark green. If I still have a bottle of that, I think I’ll use it again.
Looks nice, Fred. I think it was worth all the effort to get it right.
Looking forward to see more.
Some progress on “Frank”. Next, the anti-glare panel. Still not sure whether it will be a Home Defense plane, stay in NMF, or have field camouflage applied.
Unfortunately, the top of the wing-fuselage gap defeated my patience so I left it looking as horrible as it does, but I hope that the anti-slip band should hide it some.
The wing gap seems to be pretty well even now based on the pictures.
Looking forward to see more
Urgh. I thought I would be posting a pic of the painted and decaled plane today, but alas. I put a coat of Alclad aqua coat on it and how on and around the decals there are somewhat clear but visible blotches that look like drops. My hunch is there was some kind of reaction with the decal softener. Anyone have this experience before and have any suggestions about correcting it at this stage?
It is interesting that it is only on and around the wing decals, nothing visible on the rudder decals.
Well, as promised way back a long time ago, I’ve made a start on the Tamiya A6M5. Here are the start pics:

And here’s where I am after a couple of days work:
I really need a clean, fairly simple build, so this one will be right out of the box, to include their decal seat belts. We’ll see…
Michael
Hi All,
Nice choice Michael, I’m sure that one will give you the clean fairly simple build you seek.
While I initially thought of doing a Fw-190, I reconsidered as my USAAF representations are lacking. So I’m going with Pro-Modelers P-38 F/G/H. Which is actually the Hasegawa kit! Haven’t done a P-38 in a few years, and the last one went to my dad, the case needs to be fed!
Should be fun!
I’m looking forward to seeing how this comes together for you. I’ve been thinking about zeros and oscars.
Zero’s and Oscar’s, the weathering fun they can be! Lord knows I’ve invested a lot of energy into each of their research.
Nice choice, John!
Are you doing the version on the box art? Thats some serious mission markings!
Looking forward to see more
While I’m a sucker for the US insignia with the red surrounds, I’m leaning towards something from the South Pacific theater. But they do look good, at this point who knows. I’ll keep ya all posted!
No new pics, a step back, and a new plan. I tried a few things to clean up the wings and they didn’t work. I tried just painting over it and the spots were somewhat raised, so that didn’t really work either. So I finally decided to just strip the top wing. (Looking at the bottom wing again, it wasn’t really obvious there was a problem.) I ordered some uschi masks for german markings and will try them out. I was thinking about trying them initially…
Hello Everyone… I have been thinking of joining and I recently picked up a very interesting kit (to me) at the Reading Airshow.
I would be building Accurate Miniatures RAF Mustang MK-1A.
Delby
Looks cool, Delby.
Looking forward to see more!
Hi All
Just noticed that we can make medals for fulfilled campaigns on the site again. Are we doing one in Steffen’s honour - or is it wrong to make medals for a memorial campaign? I am not sure. Just a suggestion.
I have made a bit more progress on my 109G and Sabre tulips.
I have spiced up the 109 cockpit with some dials in the form of decals. Very small to fix in place, but adds nice detail. I also added some eduard seatbelts.
The Sabre cockpit is very old school with decals as instrument panels. Still not done yet, but hope it will be good enough to leave the canopy open.
More to follow
