Steffen Arndt Memorial One True Scale Campaign

A little more progress on my Sabre and Bf 109G.

Basic painting has been done! Soon will be the interesting point when the masking is removed. Hope everything will be top notch! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello Jesper,
nice built on those two kits. I love these old Luftwaffe Sabres.

I found some time to finish my Bearcat (bench time is very small this year).

I will make detailed photos this weekend.

Lovely build of the Bearcat, Oliver! ANG? The organge stripe gives some life into the kitty. What kit is it, Academy or Hobbyboss?

Jesper, good progress on your builds! Hope the paint will turn out fine.

Thanks for the comments, guys :slightly_smiling_face:

Nice bearcat, Oliver. I have the hobbyboss kit somewhere in my stash.

I have made some progress on my Hartmann mounts. Paint looks ok after a few minor touch ups. Next is some mottling on the sides of the 109 and the gloss coat and decals.

More to follow :slightly_smiling_face:

The decals are now. Quite problematic especially on the F-86. It is some very ESCI decals that requires a lot of varnish and decal solvent.

Hi Group, it’s been kinda quiet here. Last post 22 days ago? Time for me to post some progress.

Finally, I have decided how to finish Frank - as a bare metal Hayate finished in the early “depot” dark green over bare metal.

The fuselage is not finished, requiring the hinomaru, then Ao Midori Iro (Blue Green) camouflage, then the white senchi hyoshiki (“combat stripe”) to suggest hasty field camouflage before operational markings.

Recall that the NMF is LifeColor? It dried with such a smooth gloss that the green had trouble adhering. I thought maybe the green paint was the problem and sprayed it on some “normal” with more tooth, and the paint adhered as desired. I sort of like it, and sort of not.

Looks good, Fred! Nice look to the Japanese camo.

I am making slow progress, but getting close to the finish line none the less.

My double Hartmann build just needs to finishing touches.

More to follow soon :slightly_smiling_face:

Well my original plan has fallen by the wayside as I cant get any enthusiasm for it, so I am going to build this instead.

Its going to be the GR3 version that served during the Falklands war on HMS Hermes.
I will also be using the DN Models camouflage mask set for it as well.

Well the cockpit and the rear wheel well and air brake are built.

Next up is inserting it all into the fuselage and getting it all closed up.

Very nice Hartmann Duo, Jesper! Well done! This is something I also would like to do one day. I have a Canadair Sabre with his JA-111 registration in my stash but no 109 of him. Imagine that!

Thanks for the comment, Torsten!

I have now finished the double build for this campaign. It took some time, but in the end very satisfied with the result.

Hope it does Steffen’s memory justice.

Well it looks like a plane.

Now for the fun part, painting the camo.

Great builds Jesper. Both are stunning, and I can’t decide which one I like best.

Thanks for the comment, Andy. Much appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

Well the first camo colour is on.

I will be using DN Models masks for the camo, and I have used DN Models masks for the canopy.

Having used their masks before I can’t foresee any problems.

Interesting - looking forward to see the result of using the masks.

Well my entry is finished.
Kinetic 1/48th Harrier GR.3 XZ997/31 -1(F) Sqn., Operation Corporate, HMS Hermes, 1982.
Nice kit, but the tail planes do have a habit of falling off.

And whilst I was in the mood, I finished this Hanger Queen. Not even sure why I stopped, as it was 75% completed.

Looks really cool, Andy. Did the RAF use LGBs in the falklands campaign or did you add Them for the cool look?

Thanks.
Yep they used them, the first few missions were missed drops due to designator error, but after some experience several more missions were more successful.
