Well, I guess patriotism/chauvinism does have its merits… occassionally.
Thanks for the info, Matt. Interesting background!
Light weight !!!
@SSGToms I always believe Tamiya Japanese tank old series are still able to compete with Finemolds’ in 21th century in a lot of fields.
The bottom is mostly done.
I like the work Peter did but the weld lines will be the most done for this campaign otherwise I will never get it done in time. More work is needed for the maxim gun carriage. Need to replace the rod with a single piece and support the base as it wants to bust apart.
Welp? Started putting the lower tub for the BRDM-2 together.
This one’s going to need some work to make the whole thing nice and smooth.
Bottom work is complete and except for a sink mark on the mg shield and handle bar the mg is complete.
My entry in the Summer Nostalgia" campaign will be Tamiya’s Shokaku. The box says copywrite 1993 tho I don’t know how long I’ve had it.
I put the bottom plate on and banded it to a aluminum angle to make sure no warpage happens while the glue cures. I’ll leave it for a few days
Upon further review I don’t know why the strips are different sizes. They didn’t seem that different when I was building. I like the thickness of the left and the right seems too big.
It’s a fun build and on the bottom, who’s going know. Under primer and paint it will be fine…but
It probably is in the same league as the BMP-1 I built. Same manufacturer, same vintage.
Ah…Summer!
As a student back in the late 1980s and 1990s and just starting in this hobby, I had minimal modeling tools, paints, and supplies. Thus, I delved deeply into 1/35 DML/Dragon modern figures, patiently waiting for DML to release the next new figure kit. Decades ago, Summer was the only time I could get to build model kits as a break from homework and school.
All these DML 1/35 kits are before Year 2000. In these boxes are stuffed with remnant DML figure sprues, 1/35 weapons, and what’s left of my Summer Nostalgia years decades ago as I no longer build DML figure kits and went to more complex, expensive, and way better detailed resin figures. I threw away most of my 1/35 DML figures (I built over 100 1/35 DML figures and they most likely had lead paint before I switched to acrylics).
My goal is to build just one 1/35 figure and that is the M3 Grease Gunner tanker in the red frame and kitbash some gear and pouch parts with the PLA Hong Kong kit. Only the “PLA Hong Kong Garrison Force” and “US Tank Crew Set” are complete. The 1/35 “Light Infantry” figures have already been built and met the trash can many years ago, but there are still a few spare 1/35 DML torsos and 1/35 weapons in that box. Yes, these kits were purchased before Year 2000 as Ronald Volstad would date his DML figure box art work. For instance, the “U.S. Tank Crew” is 1993 and the “PLA HK Garrison Force” is 1998.
Since I am a Sci-Fi fan and modeler, I will draw upon the 1/35 DML Weapons Sets and my spares box to try to customize the M3 Grease Gunner into a Sci-Fi gunner, using plastic and resin parts dated Y2K and before. I will not build it OOTB.
I also switched from “Interested” to “Going” so I’m in.
My OFFICAL entry. Last tooled in 1988 kit # MM35065.
Welcome aboard!
Interesting topic!
Owww… I remember that one!
Yay! That is one of my guilty pleasures too! Sadly my last few efforts crashed and burned due to my declining skills… It helps if the bits are the same scale, unfortunately different manufacturers can interpret that scale in their own way. But if doing a diorama or vignette to a specific scale other figures not intended to be of that scale can be useful; my first 54mm goblin started out as a '70s era Bandai 1/48th scale WW2 U.S. Infantryman! My first 54mm Fantasy build dates back to my student days too. There was a model shop in the Tricorn Centre in Portsmouth which had a large variety of Historex spare parts so as a avid Tolkien fan when the Napoleonic Mamelukes came out some components formed the basis of a Southron Infantry Spearman.
Incidentally, the Tricorn Centre was regarded as one of the ugliest buildings in the U.K., and described by our soon-to-be-crowned Monarch as “a mildewed lump of elephant droppings”…
Cheers,
M
So does Industrial light and Magic
Hey! You found that Panther you were looking for.
Fast work, Raynier. Looking good!
