T-34/85 campaign

It looks good, especially the weathering is very effective! Congrats.

Hi all,
compliments for all your works on this subject.
I would need a suggestion. Now I could buy a T34/85 of Dragon, 1/35, for a reasonable price. It is the same kit with a box of ‘Chinese volunteers’ included. I would know if this kit is reasonably good, at least comparable to the offerings of Zvezda and ICM for a comparable price.
Regards
Massimo

This kit?

I guess that I’d Google it and see what that brings up?

Yes, this one.
I’ve tried googling. I know that the kits of the T-34 Dragon had a good reputation some time ago, but there are so many recent releases of T-34s, including cheap ones, that I would an update.

I’ve found this.

It doesn’t seem bad, but the solid cooling grille bothers me a bit.

The boxing before,

You won’t get the metal barrel and large pe sheet etc but it seems ok.

Thank you both, now I’ve made an idea on what to expect.

As to the other question about how it compares to Zvezda and ICM, not sure. Zvezda has a new and old tool. ICM has a newer 2015 line. Depending on what you want might drive the choice, ICM is rubber band track and solid cooling over, Dragon is solid cooling cover and individual track, new Zvezda is screen cooling cover and individual track.

Hope this helps

Thank you for the information, this excludes the ICM.

I managed to prime and paint the tracks. I will have to do some filling and sanding on the fuel tanks of the dragon kit. Some corrections need to be made to various details in the rest of the models but nothing major.

I am going for a 1/72 T-34/85 with D5-T gun. Should be a familiar build as I just build two normal T-34s for the 1/72 campaign.

More to follow :slightly_smiling_face:

A bit more progress. The kit has rubber tires for all the road wheels. Some follow modelers on this site warned me against them. Apparently they dissolve over time due to the chemical in paints etc. sounds plausible as I have tried something similar on an old Dragon BTR-80 where the rubber wheels started to dissolve and get sticky and bobble up after 6 months.

So decided to build the tank as burned out without the rubber wheels. Below some pictures I use as inspiration and a picture of the notorious rubber wheels.
Notice how the tracks will sag and not be tight anymore due to the burned off wheel rubber rims.
Also interesting to see that the tank can burn out, but the turret paint work still pretty intact and no catastrophic explosion.

More to follow soon. :slightly_smiling_face:
