Task Force Grizzly M60A1

Trying to pick an M60A1 to tie into my partners Humvees for task force Grizzly. Doesn’t need to be real detailed, just a nice representation. Thanks, Wayne

With an era set or scratch build one.

I think the Takom M60 kits are the best on the market. I did their M60A1 with ERA and dozer blade. It was an easy build and well detailed.

Esci. If it not the main player on the stage it’s perfectly suitable.

I will go with Ryan here. Simplest solution $38

Better solution. $46

The Takom kit on AliExpress is surprisingly inexpensive, especially compared to the Esci kit on eBay.
But if you already have four Esci kits in the stash…
If you don’t, I recently saw one at a show for $15 - no tax, no shipping, I’m sure I could’ve talked him down to $12 becauseI purchased other items from him.

I know they don’t come with ERA, but who doesn’t have several sets stuffed somewhere?

For only US$8 more, I would go with the Takom one. But if the idea is an inexpensive kit, I would pick an Italeri (ex-ESCI) M60 over a Tamiya one every time — though they don’t do the USMC M60A1+, if that is the specific requirement.

If going with Esci route and don’t have an issue with at Gunze boxing is what you want to find that had era and Marine decals.

Thanks guys, was just wondering why no mention of Academy kits? There seem to be a lot of them on Ebay. Wayne

The Academy M60s are slightly updated copies of the Tamiya kit. They added some more details around the cupola and hull, but only minor updates. I personally stay away from the Tamiya and Academy M60s. To me, they are soft on details and very simplified. I still stand by Takom’s kits and the Esci kits as second choice, but no ERA on them.

The Tamiya/Academy kits are old, the Tamiya kit dates back to the 1970s. They do have a number of issues with them, including the fact that they were intended to be motorized.
The ESCI/ERTL/Italeri kit corrected most of the issues of the T/A kits. For many years it was the best kit on the market.
The Takom and AFV Club kits are modern, 21st century kits. They are better than all of the old ones, can cost a bit more, and are more complicated and difficult to build, especially the AFV Club kit.
IMHO the best one currently is the Takom kit for price, quality, build, etc., but if you have the ESCI kit already or can get one cheap I would build that one.

Indeed, I’ve been looking for Esci kits on the cheap so I can use them to convert or improve other kits, FREX some of the Academy Israeli M60 variants.

I built the Tamiya rendition as a TF Ripper tank from GW1.

I ended up adding the CLAMS Lane marker unit in the back.

TF Grizzly and Ripper were part of the 2nd Marine Division. They were the “Anvil” to 7th Corps “Hammer” during the Gulf War.

ETA - took a pic this morning.

The tow cables go across the rear deck.

If you’re adding any dozer blade or mine removal equip. to the front of an M60 or M1, remember the added weight lowers the front torsion bars a little, more so on the M1s. It was still visible in the M60 blade tanks, though. My tank was parked next to an M60 Blade Tank most of the time, and there was a drop of a few inches between our front fenders when they picked up the blade.

Was that out the box Reynier ? Looks nice. Quite fancy getting an M60 with a blade, just not sure which one.

Looks like the Tamiya M1 blade added to the Tamiya M60 kit.

Two good options.

I also have the M60A3 version w/blade for a USAF tank.

Just a side question, were any M1s deployed with the dozer blase setup? Wayne

Straight OOB. Added the Mine Plow from Tamiya’s M1A1 kit OOB as well. The CLAMS box in the back was from @MikeyBugs
