The Great Canadian Campaign!

So I wont be using the already started kit at all for this build.

I dug in my spare barts bin and found a still sealed M113 hull!

So I ripped the fuel tanks off the started kit and glued them onto the new hull, a Academy one I think. Thats all I will do till May 1st.

And here I started my figure for the cupola.
I used the head from a Nato tank crew set, and the body armor is from my spares (Academy Veitnam something or other.) and the arms from a spare fig sprue. A little cutting and bending and I had the arms how I wanted. I will just need to use some green stuff to change a few details as well as try to find
(or make some) aviator sun glasses. (The canadian army has a good sence of style.)

EDIT: I did some more reading up on TUAs and it turns out the Verlinden kit is good for a 1989-1991 TUA.
Here is a quick summary of the TUA modifications:

1989-1991- No CCTAS mounted on the cupola, no external exhaust or crew heater shroud, no C6 GPMG mount, short or long antenna on the turret, antenna mount on right rear hull, no GPS antenna (may have a standard antenna mount in its place), may have a raised exhaust, pop on/pop off sight covers. NATO three colour camouflage.

UNPROFOR- 1992- 1994- External exhaust and crew heater shrouds, no GPS antenna, no TCCCS components, CCTAS fitted on cupola, short antenna on the turret, no grouser racks fitted. White overall with C6 GPMG mount NATO green, missile launcher interior NATO green.

IFOR- 1995- 1996- Same modifications as UNPROFOR TUAs as they were simply repainted in overall NATO green. From IFOR onwards the use of the side skirts was limited.

SFOR- 1996- 2003/2004- In addition to UNPROFOR/IFOR modifications the grouser racks were added (left or right side), TCCCS components added to right hull side, GPS antenna added. NATO three colour camouflage or overall NATO green. During the SFOR mission wire cutters were added to the turrets. Either a single wire cutter similar to the wire cutter on the LAV III TUA turret was added on the centre of the turret in front of the gunner’s hatch or dual vertical wire cutters were added on the outside of the turret lifting rings.

KFOR- 1999/2000- Same modifications as IFOR TUAs. Mostly overall NATO green. when the launchers were elevated or depressed the white paint from UNPROFOR could be seen on the turret sides and trunnion.

The TUAs did not receive external add-on armour as seen on the sides, front, or rear of other Canadian M113s. However, with the side skirts removed applique armour is visible attached to hull sponson over top of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd road wheels.

With that being said there were variations on the grouser racks and even TUAs into the 2000s before retirement could be seen without grouser racks, in over all green, in NATO camouflage, and even with the extended exhaust but without the perforated exhaust shroud.

@Panzer_modeler The M901 uses the same castings for the hammerhead lift parts, so yes, a lot of issues with those. The actual Hammer head unit for the M901 is different in that the ‘face’ is moulded in as opposed to the etch piece in the M981 conversion kit, which was completely wrong shape - too short, wrong angles on the sides, the optics holes were in the wrong place, etc. I expect that Verlinden’s launcher in the 901 is the same as the 981, just the flat resin from the pour under - no detail at all and the cut off cylinder to glue to the underside the only detail of sorts…

The Verlinden M901 launcher module has the full cast in curved sections on the sides. These are curved sheets on the real thing, covering the hydraulic actuators, and open that the front.

Your call if you can live with it.

Well, I found out about this insane thing this morning. Imagine a universal carrier with 18 PIATs - it exists, and the Royal Canadian Engineers made one up to bombard German positions in Northwestern Europe. I was already thinking of doing a carrier for this campaign, now I have to!

Oooooooooooh thats super cool! This will be awesome to see getting built!
How were the PIATs mounted?

With Mounties?

Of course! How did I miss that…

Basically they took two long planks of wood, cut 9 holes in each, put the PIATs through, and used a long metal tube to pull all 18 triggers at the same time.

And people say German engineering is the best.

That is going to be a cool build!

I had these Masterbox figures arrive today to add some life around the Autocar.
Will need to do some research into the uniforms and kit, but I think they should be ready to go oob. Also thinking of swapping the Enfield’s for Ross rifles, but will need to a digging around that to see if it was likely. Have more than enough going spare from various ICM sets. I understand the Ross was not a great battlefield rifle. Apparently a fantastic sports shooter though. First stop will be the video on the Ross over on Forgotten Weapons on YouTube.

Any help on that would be appreciated.

Pretty nifty. Think its the first campaign with an intro video!

Color me convinced. Canadian Churchill III confirmed and committed.

Just kidding, will be fun having someone do the same kit

Just saw this campaign, and it’ll be a great excuse for a build! Not sure what yet, as I have too many choices…
