Tiger Battalion

So I took a shot and ordered some metal tracks off eBay and fortunately they fit the Takom kit I was working on, and upon test-fitting found they fit RFM and Dragon as well (I had no others on-hand to test). So I ordered two more sets.

They took me roughly two hours to assemble a complete set, with about 17-19 extras. No blocked holes on any and what flash there was easily scraped away by fingernail.

I found they are awesome for assembling during our Zoom faculty meetings as I can pretend to be paying attention to the presentation that is full of bitmojis and embedded Taylor Swift songs because the staff is mostly female. They always give us a link to the PPT anyway so everyone except the presenters’ friends catch up on paperwork until it ends and we complete our attendance surveys. I have five Tigers left that can use metal tracks, but far more than five meetings.

Hey you forgot to tell us the name of these great tracks so that we can order a set, too.

Well, they came up under a general search and appear to be unbranded. There are loads of Chinese vendors selling them but this is the listing name for the ones I bought:

1/35 Scale Metal Track Link w/metal pin for German Tiger Mid-Late Tank Model Kit

I had just searched “1/35 Tiger tracks links metal” and they were part of the results.

The price varies from $30-$40 US with shipping also varying from seller to seller. They could be – and likely are – your standard IP “reverse-engineered” products from our industrious friends behind the Great Wall. The only metal track maker I am familiar with is Friulmodel but never having seen a set IRL I don’t know how to tell if these are infringing. All I know is the price was comparable to the resin and plastic sets I was looking at, and why buy those when you can have metal?

Looking for the larger type Balken Cross that was on some Tiger hull sides. Does anyone have an extra set you don’t plan to use?

From the skirt bolt to the edge of the upper plate just as shown? If you don’t get a hit first from someone else before midnight tonight I can check my box of extra nonsense and let you know. Pretty sure I do; just have to rummage as you likely understand.

Thanks.

Sorry I didn’t make it before midnight, but what I found were quite a few that aren’t quite as big as you are looking for but close. There is a 2 mm gap left top and bottom if you center them. I have quite a few unbuilt; do you know if there were any Dragon kits known to have them as maybe I have one I can check?

I don’t know if the Dragon kits have them or not. The tank I am building comes with the standard sized cross but needs the larger one. I was curious if someone had the larger cross on the decal sheet from the kit they were making for the champagne.

I am ready to get started with my entry: the Revell Sturmtiger. It has some nice details for the interior and the engine. I might leave the hatches open across the sturmtiger.

More to follow soon :slightly_smiling_face:

I am planning to make a very similar vehicle to these two vehicles. Absolutely love this camouflage.

I tried this many years ago on my AFV Club kit…

It’s been a while since I did something to my Tiger… but finally I did something - the hull is closed and turret is also assembled. I did some basic paintings in engine area (red primer) and interior . They won’t be visible, but just in case if something “shines” through.

So here’s the current status:

I bought Panzerwerk Design 3D printed tracks for a Tiger and I must admit, they’re pretty solid looking and quite easy to assemble (despite pins looking so thin and fragile!). It took me ~1h to assemble both tracks and here’s how they look like:

My Tigger is assembled (I hope I won’t break all these antenna masts during painting and weathering…)

My Sturmtiger is slowly taking form. Pretty decent interior.
