Tiger Models announces a new 1/35 Tiger
Ugh… Why more Tigers? We’ve had five releases from Takom lately and this is just too much. That’s MHO about that, I’m sure someone is happy about this. I’m sure it’s probably a great kit, but I feel like we’re being buried under a slew of Tigers.
Any thoughts on this?
Ok, mini rant aside, I think it’s kind of funny that Tiger Models is producing a Tiger. The kit itself looks nice in the rendering pictures, and a metal barrel is always a plus. No experience with Tiger models so I’m leaving it up to some other members here to give their two cents on how this might turn out.
Edit: Scalemates has 177 entries in the database in 1:35 alone, and that may or may not include Porsche Tigers.
Yeah, we need another Tiger like we need another Smart Car.
I never bought and built a bunch of Tigers so am open to it. I built a Dragon Porsche Tiger about 17 years ago. (The oddball from Heavy Tank Battalion 653.) I have a Dragon initial Tiger and Dragon late Tiger in the closet but both need tracks and a bunch of corrections.
What is the “super affordable price”? If this is cheap enough and accurate enough, it makes more sense to buy a new one than try to fix old ones.
Are “semi-articulated tracks” link and length? I am okay with decent link and length tracks. They save a ton of time.
I’d started to post as a joke we needed another new Tiger 1 release in the what do you want in 2024 thread. Obviously, that joke is on me now.
If Tiger Models takes trade in’s I might be interested. With ~28 Tiger kits in the stash, I’m not in the market for more Tiger kits until the stock pile drops under 20 kits.
David B. in your experience which Tiger 1 kit is the most accurate OOB?
The most accurate, for exteriors anyway, are the Dragon ones, simply because I check them for errors and Dragon almost always make the changes I request. But not all Dragon Tigers are equal.
For interiors, Dragon are not in the game, and Rye Field win it. However they also have gross inequalities between kits - they’re much more accurate inside Early Tigers than Mid or Late.
Their most recent Late seems to have a beautiful and complete engine compartment. They really raised the bar and set the standard there, though it took them a few tries. Trumpeter came along with a 1/16 kit that isn’t as good.
As for this new Tiger Models kit: looking at the CAD, I don’t see any serious problems. It’s a bit “blocky” in the fine detail perhaps. Let’s see what the plastic is like. The hull MG ball is questionable.
It’s just disappointing that they went for the same March-April-May 1943 version that everybody and his uncle has covered.
David
sounds like someone should set up a Tiger group build for next year…
Tiger fatigued…
We had one last year… WOrth reading it.
Put a Tiger in Your Tank! - Tiger Build Thread - Armor/AFV / WWII Axis - KitMaker Network
@phil2015 Phil, I think a Tiger group build next year is a fantastic idea! I’ll happily support with a build as I plan to build another Tiger I and King Tiger next year.
The Tiger in Your Tank thread is a build to support The-Great-Ones a group build honoring Shepherd Paine, Verlinden & Bob Letterman.
So I really like the idea of dedicated Tiger or Cat group build thread.
FWIW…
Referring to Tiger popularity, one Tiger build for one kit generated more interest on our forum, than anything else I’ve posted.
The Panther thread has three Panther builds, Three Amigo’s four Pz III builds and Small Fry two builds. Those subjects generate about 1/4 to 1/2 as much interest as the Tiger subject.
Golly, Tigers are pretty rare. I don’t know who would have one in their stash. I dought there would be many who could enter…
Since there are now about as many different Tiger E kits available as there were actual tanks made (1350), I suppose it must now be theoretically possible to build any individual vehicle made during the production run! I can see why a new manufacturer would put out as their first kit a sure fire seller, but given the competition, one would have to ask, “What does it offer that other kits don’t?”. Yeah, ali barrel, well lots of DML kits have that. Don’t know what semi-articulated tracks are, we already have “workable” tracks from other makers, is that what they are? Although I like late war German stuff, I’ve made a DML Tiger and a Takom Tiger II and don’t see the need for any others in my collection.
Well, if a tiger build was to materialize, might I suggest it has to be of a particular tank and not a generic one?
I have 4 in the Stash. I Sold 6 in a moment of Confusion. I need to buy 7 or 8 more.
I know where you can get 3 at a time…
Not counting the variants I have eight unbuilt Tigers.
I’ve built 2 Tiger Models over the years and have been happy with both kits.
I’m also a Tiger-aholic, I hate to say it,“collector”. I must have 10 or so in the stash including 3 of the Dragon kits where they gave you all the extra goodies, Takom’s 3 kit box set a couple of Ryefields.
So, based on the past 2 TM kits I’ll have to add this one to the collection.
BTW, I do build them with 4 on the shelf and one of the 3 Takom kits underway.
Anyhow, looking forward to the kit especially if the “Super Affordable Price” is true. BUt… can it top Takom’s $35 or so price tag???
Are you referring to the Big Box with the 3 Tiger kits?
If there’s a Tiger group build next year, I’m definitely up for the build.
