Torpedo Away!

I’m going to be doing Hobbyboss’s Lynx HMA8 with a pair of Stingrays.

Would be cool to see another whirlybird or two.

I’ll try to participate in this one - will have to be later. I have a Great War German destroyer and a WW2 Japanese cruiser. What’s a torpedo away campaign without someone tossing long lance?

Think I found my victim, although that may change when the ICM TB Mk.1 Hampden comes out or I find a 1/48 Fiat G.55S. Until then this is it.

Wow, there’s a blast from the past!

Managed to find it on ebay, the PE and metal landing gear all still sealed in the little box stapled inside the main box. If I remember from the time these were descent kits, I remember getting one of the 190’s when they first came out and being terrified as it was the first time I’d seen PE and had no idea what I was supposed to do with it.

Always been a bit of a 190 fan, I’ve got 190’s in all the main scales 700, 350, 144, 72, 48 and 32 only scale missing is 24th but that’s to big for my small flat (apartment), even tempted by the Border 1/35.

Nice choice, Luciano! I think I have the reboxing of this kit without the metal gear, but still with PE.

It is really a striking model with a high performance fighter strung up with a massive torpedo underneath.

Are you giving it the squiggle “over water” camouflage?

A bit fiddly, as I recall. Take your time and you’ll have a fine, and different, model!

@SGTJKJ @michaelsatin Well never did build the 190 from way back when as the PE scared me off but with the passage of time and experience it should be a doddle. Not decided on a paint scheme yet and it may still get put back in the stash if a Fiat G.55S turns up.

This is still the plan:

Going for Lance Massey’s VT-6 aircraft (incorrectly labeled as Gene Lindsey’s on the decal sheet) from the first successful US torpedo raid on Kwajalein on 1 February, 1942.

A bit of a mea culpa, I did start some painting before we decided to launch this campaign:

Only interior green (and I’ll probably have to put down another coat) and white on the prop tips and rudder. I also corrected the windscreen. Trumpter unfortunately repeated the error of molding extra braces on it which weren’t actually there. So I removed them. VERY carefully.

I did add the Eduard interior set and seat belts to the mix. So now I can really get started!

Not planning on changing from a Fw-190D-12 or Fiat G.55S but how about a shore torpedo battery?

Too bad that the Confederal submarine H. L. Hunley didn’t launch a torpedo instead of planting a bomb, that would have been a cool subject to build. They called the bomb a torpedo at that time but it wasn’t a torpedo as we know them today.

This hobby is supposed to be fun and (sometimes) educational, so in that spirit I’d say the Hunley would count. As you point out, that’s what they called torpedos at the time!

Couldn’t resist pushing that ‘Going’ button. Although I may not finish in time (shoddy campaign record), count me in anyway…

And we are started. Box is opened on the evening of New Years day 2026 as shown on the iPhone. First steps complete so the “Boot” is now underway! Happy year ahead to all

Littorio, Harv, I think we got an O.K. for both Spar Torpedoes and Shore Torpedo Batteries when the campaign was first mooted; but to reiterate I will not be trying to build a Brennan installation…
The reason I won’t - this is a slightly different version of the video link I posted then:

Cheers,

A little each day. Hull underway

Thank you, I think I will change my initial project and build the Hunley instead. :slightly_smiling_face:

I would say the Hunley is a torpedo: it has a warhead at the front, propellor and rudder at the back, a propulsion and guidance section in the middle, and it runs (semi) submerged…
